The emerging stylistic differences within the psy-trance genre of dance music is fascinating, and yet to me, it's often passed over as a "given" as to why certain sounds are appropriate for either the night or day of the gathering.
A) What is "night time, full-on and/or dark psy"? What is it, in itself, and how does it differ from...
B) "Morning/Day time melodic, light and/or progressive psy"?
Are we dealing with something profound and spiritual here, or a simple preference according to the systems in our animal bodies?
Does the feeling of being out in the remote forest or plain promote an empathy with the strange, slightly un-nerving and unfamiliar? Does the sunrise stir within us a return to the more conventional, emotional plane of which we are most familiar?
How do artists integrate the experience of a party into the mood of their electronic dance creations?
Are we to further refine and become more conscious of the moods of our dance music?
Is it drawing closer to some kind of ritualistic, structured process, or diffusing into a sea of chaos?
These questions, of course, are seeds for some thoughtful conversation, not for informative purposes.
Sorry if I'm geeking it up a bit too much here, I'm in a mood

Its all about feelings. Agressive, Happy....
expresions of feeling into music. NIGHT Is 4 agressive imo. heavy music.

Dark music reminds me how much more there can be to life, how many more things I can be, how many mysterious things there are that we can only guess at, and obscure corners in the universe that we cannot see but know they are there.
Light music makes me feel that life is wonderful, happy, and the world is a beautiful place full of love and friendship. Something you can float on, like the clouds in the blue sky..
both styles have their time and place.. ..it's just another party.. |

bingo! i was trying to express what i feel, but you already did it!
i think this is some of reasons why i like dark music. i always, in any style of music, look for some reflective feeling and i found it in dark music. it's intense.
something like that.
day music makes me feel like a strange, in fact. i can't feel good with so much "happiness" around me. looks like it's a superficial thing. maybe happiness is superficial. i dunno.
(don't crucify me because of this words)

This is a repost from another thread but I think it fits here
The light/dark duality is a metaphor for a dynamic creative opposition current that runs through life. Like a battery. + and - terminals. I think our souls are like that too and its the constant play between the light and the dark inside our hearts that makes the current of lifeforce that runs inside us. I think I must have my terminals backwards because "happy" music makes me feel kinda depressed sometimes and "dark" music fills me with an explosion of spiritual ecstatcy. Go figure.

Yeah thats exactly what I mean. I think that what it is is that there is big time trouble brewing in the world in it feels just plain strange to be all care-free on XTC to the sound of care-free XTC music. There is so much going wrong and I am so impotent to stop it. What can I do but listen to dark sounds and dance my rage and frustration away? Maybe if the world can get over this period of imbalance the happy sounds will be more at home in my brain.
