Its a bass.
You mean it doesn't sound like most basses? A bass is anything that uses sub-frequencies.
I'm still working on syncing the vowel/throat changes. |

At least, bass is a sound where frequencies below 100-150 Hz are the loudest )

The only real bass note in this clip is the D# which is the fundamental... all the formant stuff sounds really bad sorry. I would never use this as a bass as it would clash with midrange frequencies you would want to use for Leads etc..
Think about what you are trying to make a bass sound for... maybe it will suit your purposes for whatever music you are trying to make. For psytrance this bass is a definite nay. |

lol..you believe there is a such thing as notes that arn't proper for bass?
No offense..but its no wonder nothing new comes around anymore.
How is D# the only 'bass note'? Bass can be any note on the scale...A through F. Preferable on the same key as the lead. If you want harmony that is.
Btw..i know its not psy, never said it was...but there is no where else on the net where people listen to something even remotely close to what i produce. Most of the psy basslines ive heard, unfortinatly..all sound like the default setting for Muon Tau 2...just exprimenting with something different. Most of them don't even have a melody..they are a monotone bump you hear inbetween kick sounds. Which isn't bass. Infact, i don't think ive ever heard a psy bass with a real melody. |

I am serious.
I really cannot recall any song where the bass was anything more than a a part of the percussion. Maby i'm forgetting something? ive listen to several psy channels, like the ones at DI.FM for instance..and have wondered when the next song is going to come around, because the beat/bass are the exact same.
A bass is a part of the song that should, imho, have a melody as complex and astral/emotional/touchy-feely..as the lead. The bass is a melody that covers the low end, and the lead is a melody that covers the high end. With secondary lead/bass covering sections of the mid. And ambience spanning pretty much the entier spectrum with out going into the sub. Percussion can be anywhere, as the sound is unique enough to stand out. |

IMO. Most people are scared of using melodies in the bass because they either don't understand theory well enough or don't have the analytical listening skills to make a 'moving' bassline work with all the other elements of a track without sounding cheesy.
Plus, duggadugga is killar on the dancefloor so why bother trying to do anything new?
No problem though, all it means is that the good tunes sound even gooder.
And sixofour - you talk a good talk, now let's hear YOUR complex and astral/emotional/touchy-feely bassline melodies

Plus, a lot of people just don't want any obvious melody, more structures built up by crazy sounds layered on the top of a monotonous bassline!! |
