I totally disagree. I actually just came from my friend who has the Samsons, and they are totally not linear in the sound as the HS50! The yammies might be a bit rough and tiresome for some, but they are detailed and much more balanced than the Samsons atleast!

i dont want to start a fight or anything but what you said is incorrect.
you came from a friend but did you listen to the yamahas and the rubicons in the same room?
if you didnt then you cant make any conclusions which monitors is more linar.
on the preformace graph in manual you can clearly see that the samsons rubicon R5a are more linar then the yamahas hs 50 (same size monitors). and also you can see on the graph that the hs50 lack in bass and low mid. and thats why the monitor is so cold and nasal and tiersom.
the hs80 sound much better then the hs50 but still yamahas will make your ears bleed much befor the samsons will or the behringers.
as i said the yamahas are not bad monitors and they will be good for second pair for reference, but as main monitors they just dont cut it for dance (bass heavy) music production.
i dont want to offend anyone that have the yamahas, but my advice to those who thinking about buying them, dont. not a good monitor for psy.

I'm still waiting for the thread starter to specify what the monitors are actually for.........The yamaha's deliberately have a non linear response as they are geared towards mix engineers and are not suitable for tracking. |

Google broken hey?
tracking/recording........engineering term.......though with psy you may not do any recording but you still will work with multiple tracks and will be doing sound design before you mix (well in most cases).......but this is a big topic.......every time I discuss it some kid who has never stepped in a real studio comes in and starts disputing things. |

hey, yesterday i listened first time to my new hs50 (untreaded room). and these are my first monitor speakers...
im a little confused, i thought of a big booom for 350 €... ok, they are made for making music, but shouldnt sound professional tracks good with this monitors? the high/mid area was very high, and bass little to low, but you can reduce/boost the db in this areas for -/+ 2db.
should the music sound good with the monitors, or should i just hear what im making, because im feeling like i notice every little knobchange i make, but the sound itself is not what i want to hear if i was a customer.
i tried a little bit with the placement of the speakers, and i think i can really get much more quality sound with room treatment, maybe thats the question to my problem...
i dont really know what "monitor speaker" means.
i know that they are for producing music, but how can i produce music if i dont can hear the endresult, and i dont know how it has to sound like until i give the track to a mastering studio.
hope you can understand me^^
greetings

Most important thing is to get to know them compared to other speakers you know!
|
|
i thought so. i try to listen to my songs as often as i can on other systems. no money for another pair of speakers...

An untreated room is likely to exaggerate the highs and mids (unless your listening position is exactly at a low frequency room mode node. In which case all bets are off ). You also have to be careful with the distance between your monitors and the back wall. If they are too close, you get cancellation in certain frequencies (Low-mids to bass).
A while back when doing a kind of mastering exercise on a forum someone made the follow comment to one of the participants: "A: Hey are your speakers X feet from the back wall? B: Err I just measured and yes they are! A: I thought so, there is a lump at X Hz in your version. That frequency is cancelling out in your studio so you overcompensated with EQ". Lol.
That said, what you are hearing might be close to what is there. HiFi speakers tend to flatter the music and make it sound good. Monitors shouldn't do that.
I remember listening to B&W Nautilus 801 speakers for the first time. I could suddenly hear all sorts of low-level muck and errors in music I thought was close to perfect.

orgytime , you are welcome. But do keep in mind that I haven't heard the HS series. There might some issues with them. No idea really. And you might be lacking bass at the listening position which makes the music sound less impressive and powerful. (Could be due to the monitors. This can be fixed with a sub or it could be an acoustic problem. This would be fixed with bass traps).

i get my homestudio in one week and couldnt wait to test the monitors... the position is very fkt up, but yes, there is a sweet spot for bass.
now i cant wait to desig my homestudio^^
one thing... when i switch on the speakers i noticed that they have "loud" zero volume. this noise is not rising with the volume and dont accrue from the cables (pc connection).
is this normal, that monitors got this zero noise? i think i just have to mix on higher volumes^^
i cant say how much spl, because i have no spl-meter, but i can say that my old 20€ speakers didnt make this noise.
