Hi there,
When DX7 was launched, dance music almost did not exist at all as we know it today.
Probably you could find some usefull sounds there, but if you use a computer why not use FM7(you save all the output noise of DX7). And again now there are so many VSTi's specifically designed for trance, making hard to understand why anyone should use the DX7(as a primary or even secondary sound source for trance). |

well, you're right, but why instead of burning processor power and since a the TX7 (the rack version of the DX7) is avaliable for less than 50€...
My question is concerning the sounds, specially bass sounds...
Also it would not be my primary sound source: i've already got 3 synths

i think the fm7 has some nice basses, which must meen that the dx7 has them aswell....
but its a hard synth to program... but thats also individual...
if i was you i would find some kind of synth forum and ask the synth freaks there...
good luck |

i'll just quote what an enlightned user said some time ago:
"take the FM 7 for example, for almost the same money you can buy a Yamaha TX-802. That is 8 DX7s in rack with no CPU drain whatsoever and no matter if you have a soundcard or not."

great point of view...
Triptocoma: yes... FM is very complicated but that's part of the challenge

The Yamaha fm synths do make nice bass but not the usual fast 16th note wich the Nordlead exells at.
The fm bass is more like "gronk". I bet you have heard the "lately bass" preset.
It can sound a bit like Roland SH bass because of the nice slope on the decay stage of the envelopes.
Astral Projections have used fm bass on some of thier older tracks:
"Buttlerfly Trip"
"Utopia" (a very good example of fm bass - plays solo in the beginning)
"Free Tibet" is also a great example.
"State Of Mind"
