It's not a Virtual Analog synth, so I guess you should'nt use it.
It can be nice for performing live though.

Mike A, I respect you, but u are totally wrong here. Yep, u and a lot of people who thinks only VAs are suitable for making any kind of eletronic music. No, ROMplers can make a great sound sometimes (Motif, Triton, S90/CS6x, XV5050 etc.), mainly for pads and strings (not those fat and warm sound made by VA or real analog, but even so, amazing and light!). Of course, it doesn't make trance leads like JP80x0, but ROMplers can be nice. I had a CS6x and I loved it. I regret sold it.
So, CS6x has a great arpeggiator built-in, but it isn't not programmable. Its phrase sampler (limited to 4 mega - not expandable!) is really funny, I already made a lot of amazing FX sounds on it. Its FX section effects is great as well. Great master controller, as said by other members here. It has two slots for PLG boards and I can say, the PLG150-AN really rocks!!!!!!!
If you don't know, PLG150-AN is a AN1x cut-down version (polyphony), but it has the great MULTISAW waveform. Dude, the AN1x and PLG150-AN had the some original Prophet-5 designers envolved on its project, and it sounds nice (very great Prophet-5 and Moog emulation - not so good for Roland analog stuff). In short: An1x/PLG159-AN are the most underrated synth ever made.
Bottom-line: CS6x has my totally respect as synth for producing.

I've hears some rumors that yamaha might release new FS (FS1r) plugin board, now that will be hell of a upgrade.

I've already read a lot of excellent reviews about FS1r. I know it was a powerful FM synthesis engine, much better than the original DX7, but it hadn't success on market, unfortunately. FS1r as a plug-in board should be amazing for CS6x's users. I had two PLG150-AN installed on my ex-CS6x and I bought the Manuel Schleis soundset. My CS6x+PLG150-AN was gorgeous with the Schleis sound.

yep, fs1r blows the dx7 in every direction, if i am not wrong it has 8 operators, and lot more algorithms + Formant Shift. Actually in fm wolrd: fs1r is number one, then SY99, then SY77 and then DX7.
i have plg-150an and plg-150dx boards installed on mine, but would trade dx board for FS anytime though.
