It's not a Virtual Analog synth, so I guess you should'nt use it.
It can be nice for performing live though.

Yes you can, the cs6 is a control synthesizer, all knoabs can be programmed to send midi data, and you can modulate any sound source, even the audio input, all in real time (after delving into some menus, of course.) It has loads of greats drum sounds and the midi interface is rock solid, the keyboard is yamaha, if you like yamaha keyboards I guess it's ok. It also has built in effects, reverb, flanger, lots of very nice delays, all in acceptable (good) quality and, again you can change the parameters in realtime and create some wicked delaying effects. I have used this machine alot and i enjoy the user interface, even with it's cascading menus. A very good machine for live gigs, if you like carring 12 KG's, or you can get the rack version, that has the same programmable interface, but doesnt have any keys.

On the back, you have 2 pedal inputs, 1 audio input, 3 outputs (+phones) a volume button, midi in, out and through and the power supply is internal, so you just plug the 220 cable in and BANG.

Now the nitty gritty: The sound sources are sample based, wich mean that there are no oscillators, although the sound sources are trated as oscilator in this particular machine, you can alter most aspects of the sound source and you can layer upto 4 sounds and alter specific details about the overlayed samples independantly, such as lfo rate, lfo delay, glidie, pitch timbre, tuning, lfo routing and effect send amounts. It has 128 note polophony, so you wont run out of power. the bass presets are fantastic and the preprogrammed ambiences rock! It's not and "organic" machine, but it is SOLID enough (it's made of aluminium).

all in all, it is a machine that can give you hours of pleasure and an infinite array of sounds.

BTW, I know of one that is for sale, should I buy it or are you gonna do that?

)

Ken

P.S. It is great as a master keyboard and since LOTS of people dont like the menus, it is cheap to get second hand, i recon you should not pay more than 900/1000 euros for it.           Manipulation is to the chemist, like the external senses to the mind. --Whewell.

cs6x rocks...I use my cs6x and my juno106
for most of my creations...mostly i use my juno106 for input of melodies and triggering
the cs6x has more power with leads
when in Voice mode. You can utilize
all effects and voices that are layered.
when in muli mode it does take away on the effects since it is using its power on all the 16 parts with the voices, you would have to run through an external effects proccessor to apply effects to your sounds.
I you Logic Audio 5.5 and assign the out midi channel to the cs6x.
when recording tweaks for my VSTi's
with knobs, the cs6x is badass to use on this
just hit record and tweak away and the data is recorded via midi for tha vst channel.
other wise i hook the midi out to the computer to the juno 106.
peace and laterZ!

Agree with Psyghost.

CS6x is wicked cool synth, perfectly suitable for live: has 2 expansion ports for various Plugin boards, i have PLG-150an and PLG-150dx installed in it, and the amount of sounds and sonic power is absolutelly out of this world.

Someone said it's not VA, sure but with PLG-150an it sure sounds like one.
I'd say get it, especially for the prices they are going now, you'll be glad that you did.

Soundwise: it has 2 preset banks (256 locations), loaded with cool organic sounds: strings, pianos, reeds, whatever. It also has internal and external sound banks for user presets (256 locations). Installing plugin boards will also give you additional preset and user sounds, plg-150an has 256 presets and 128 user locations, plg-150dx over 900 preset + 64 user locations. the coolest thing is that within cs6x you can layer sounds into one midi channel, the synth is very flexible, and the effects section-well thats a god send, absolutelly wicked.
Even though cs6x follows AWM2 synthesis architecture, but the basic rules are the same as with the additive synthesis, you can have 4 tones layer together for sonic complexity, each with its own filter, pitch, amplitude envelopes and independent fx assignment, plus the filters on this thing are the best feature: there are LPF, BPF, HPF and Notch filter tipes with selectable 4 poles (6db, 12db, 18db or 24 db). Each tone can have its independent filter type and amount.

Sequencer is direct play, you can chain 100 midi songs, with the adjustable song start position, adjustable BPM, so pretty much will allow you to do dj style non-stop performances.
