I have one.
Uhhh... Amazing synth for melodic work, shit for the harder progressive stuff.

It is quite limited in some areas but you can get over it after you have some experience.

now, the thing about the CS1x is its not a proper modelling synth- maybe this isnt important to you (maybe you dont want that). its just a wavetable synth with some clever controls on the front to alter the sound. its well loved and cheap, but you can deo better for the money. i was going to buy a CS1x (in england, about £500), but instead i bought an AN1x, which looks identical, but is a proper modelling synth, because it was being discontinued, and was also £500. its an excellent machine, fat sound and not TOO difficult to programme, very good for pads and ambience in particuklar. but it doesnt have a proper sequencer on board, only a step sequencer for arpeggios, and isnt for all round work like the CS1x (only 128 presets, no drums, etc).
if you want something like the CS1x, with  a sequencer, dont forget to check out the newer yamaha machines, liek the CS2x and CS6x (though i dont like the cs6x, not advanced enough)

But usually the sequencers on the synths are not as powerful as software based sequencers. I think it's better to pay less for a synth without a sequencer but has the same sonic capabilities of another synth.

CS1x is quite good as a controlling keyboard. It is less good as a synth ( IMHO ), cuz it's sounds are TOO digital for me and lack the warmth that analogue ( or analogue wannabees ) synths have. Also it's percussion sets are not too bright - They are very basic and good to begin with, but when u go for sound tweaking it doesn't get u far on the perc section.
But once more - it's a very good control synth. I use it for 4 years now and no complaints.

Cheers
