Hey folks!
I hv been making sounds in my PC which is a Pentium 4 / 768mb RAM / Sound blaster creative live and i use windows XP. The thing is, i use my pc for other stuff too, like internet, so i hv been having many problems related to cpu usage.. and this is pissing me off, thats why i decided to format my pc and use it just for music applications. Someone told me i should not use windows XP, and instead of it i better use win98 or millenium..
Can u guys give me some advice about what is the best thing to do? I use Cubase/flstudio and many vsts! I know i am suppose to install the OS with the minimum requirements and that there are some tips that will make my system work better!
Appreciate if u help me with that,
see ya fellows =)

XP need some tweaking, but after that it runs a lot smoother than 98/ME.

You can find some tweaks specifically for audio here:

Amd is best, and use win xp all other is shit.

EYB: this is taste, you cant argue about mac vs windows. my friend has been using mac since he can breathe and he would never trade it for a windows. he gets excited by mac's power day by day.
i use windows 2000, i never tried it somewhere else so i actually cant compare.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

What a load of crap !!!
Software for Mac costs just as much as for a PC...
And if u wanna compare XP to OSX...i think XP has just missed the boat...

Dear SyntH3ơNia,

XP is the only way to go if you have a PC.
No format is needed, you just need to remove anything you do not use, and tweak XP to get maximum performance. All the information about what exactly to do is on http://www.musicxp.net
Read all the 'Installing XP', 'Tuning Tips', 'Hardware Tips' and 'Services'. They will help you a lot.

Now if u also use that same computer to access the net (which is not advisable) you really need to get a virus scanner and a trojan-bot-spyware scanner.

For viruses get AVG6.0 (its free and updates something like 3 times a week with all the new viruses) at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl6.php

For trojan-bots-spyware stuff use Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 which also updates very often and does an excelent job in removing anything that will slow you down. Get it from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html.

Both programs are free.

Good luck.           http://triplex.trance.net
