First about the clicks and pops, install the x station usb driver without any problem, fix your settings in the control panel
settings:
Davice : X-Station
ASIO Resolution : 24bit or 16bit
System Preformance(latency) : Fast or Normal
Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
Secend, turn off the gain in the 2 inputs and press the Stereo butten near the inputs butten, this will mute the noise.
conect somthing to your inputs and then try the gain butten.
