hi there!
few weeks ago i was experimenting with some sounds and x-hum plugin from waves bundle. This plugin usualy removes 50-60 Hz hum that can get into signal from power supply cords and plugs when recording to tape devices etc. Plugin has an "audio/difference" switch so you can hear only part of the signal beeing removed by these multiple narrow Q eq. Then I tried 2 load the same plugin on a bass track, swithc to "difference" and start moving Q frequency. At some point I got some sort of metal squeek sound. I switch back to "audio" and what I got was a crystal clear bass line!!! Little more adjustments on Q widith and gain and bass line sounded really nice.
I've tried the same technique with kick drum and it also works fine. You can change settings for all Q points at once or choose only even or odd.
I would like 2 know if anybody else have come up with similar techniqe. It's so easy that I'm afraid I'm overseeing something!?
pls let me know what you think. tnx!

i also use that plug in, i find it very usefull , although i realised the better things are eq and compressed before passing them through waves_x_hum the less the plug in works on the sound. also i tend not to use the presets that come with the plug in, better results if you start from zero.

I do almost the same thing. In fact, i use only even or odd harmonics (depending on the bass sound) and i try to keep gain and Q as low as possible. 2 much of X-hum takes the punch from a track away.
tnx man... i'll sleep better now

welcome
i guess you could do the same job with any EQ by grouping & moving the Q points so they always hit the same harmonic in every octave... If you EQ the kick drum on 250 hz in order 2 remove that wierd sound the harmonics of that sound are present in every other octave along the logarithmic frequency range.
But I think that X-hum does this job better then any other EQ because it has more narrow Q and way much stronger gain designed 2 remove the noises without cuting nearby frequencyes as ordinary EQ would do.
btw: try to handle kick & bass as mono. Later you can make a bass line stereo again if you want, but X-hum is more accurate when handling a mono file.
