Hey guys,

I haven’t tried it yet but I was wondering if helps to write a project before starting to produce. I mean, to determine lengths for loops, breaks, silence, transitions… and so on. Does it sound stupid?

In my case I’m quite used to start by creating kick and bass sequence (leaving around 1 min for intro) and then all the rest by feeling (means chaotic)… there is no organization at all.

And you?? Any special technique/tip?

=)

it is a matter of preference. i personally love this whole discovering and experimentation so i do TRY to be chaotic at least in the writing stage. these things have no rules

Well, sometimes i have an idea for a track before i begin, and this can be sweet in terms of the arrangement being done inside my head before i even go to my DAW...

this is great and all, but maybe it harms creativity? When i just sit down like OP and let my mind and creativity flow, sometimes beautiful things emerge, that i wouldn't have stumbled upon if my focus was already set on a certain arrangement.

Long story short.. i use both the stringent and the chaotic methods. Mostly depends on my mood and creativity, and i think this is the way to do it if you feel like jamming, then by all means do. But if you had this bassline or killer lead in your head all day, it can also be very rewarding to throw an arrangement together, making your vision come true.

I never (so far) wrote a tune according to the "writing" technique, you know the think now and do later thing.. I always just create an atmosphere, the more twisted the better (but that's my taste), and from that atmosphere i let the music evolve. Of course i have my own k'n'b but i love how in each track my kick and bass have different meanings and how they interact with the atmosphere along the song.

I tryed to do this a few times, everytimes it ends up the same way.
I start with the idea i have, but very soon the creativity break the pattern i have thought out, Then 4 hours have gone i forgot all about the idea and just let the creative flow take the track where it wants.

I think organization comes naturally with time and also chaos does not have to be a bad thing.
But try it out maybe it works for you?.           .
