When it comes to tuning a kick to a bass don't worry with music theory, as it's fairly irrelevant. Just pitch the kick to the timbre where it grooves the nicest and sounds the most connected to the kick.

u mean pitch the bass right?

No, I mean pitch the kick. It's just percussion to me like any other snare or hi hat or whatever. I find it much easier to tailor a kick drum to a bassline than vica-versa. Number 1 reason being that I may have a melody in my bassline that might drop too low to sound clear on the synth I'm using, so I get my bassline sounding clear and balanced then I'll make my kick.
Although on re-reading my post I see where it would get confusing... it should say "the most connected to the bass."

Thats what i meant. I hope If you have your kick-drum sample in a sampler and you have your bassline playing, just tweak the 'tune' knob of the kick drum sample a little bit until kick and bass fit like they are from the same song. If you have a kick that doesn't need a lot of pitching from the start it helps

Life is a constant stream and so should be both music and meditation. Otherwise they separate us from life rather than making our life more joyful.

True psychedelic practice of producing psytrance imho, really, respect.
It can last for many years before the first seeds grow if you are just a home-grown producer, but you end up with something really yours, unique. Your life sounds in your music, not your samples
Of course this doesn't mean you shouldn't ask questions like this. Having the basic music education i have anyway learned a few useful tips from the topic, thank you, guys.
A friend of mine starts trying making psychedelic trance and asks many questions. I always tell: first - music theory. Just a little bit at least, basics. I'm really convinced young producers should feel the responsibility for what they produce - from the harmony and idea to engineering quality. Then musicmaking can open you a way you speak to yourself, not just producing a product. Sory for many words |
