http://www.tipsforsuccess.org/professionalism.htm

as of now i am a amateur... and its not satisfying at all!
but can we really be professional in all aspects?
i mean i like to juggle, but im a amateur at it, i know if i would spend more time on it and practise all day i could become real good juggler.
this is the same with music,
and school work.
but i often fail, and i made it a trend.

I set my mind to learn how to juggle with 4 balls and i made it, so i know nothing is impossible, its just that we all have different obstacles, different weakness and strengths... there is alot of mental work to be done, and to get routine on things, otherwise it gets messy...

i think i will try to get more professional in my way of living and working without sacrifice my persona...

thanks for the inspiration Atma! i need to clear the fog in my head and get a grip.

I agree with you !!!

If you wanna make music, do it proffesionaly....if not, you better quit before you spend time and money for nothing

And don't forget: in the hands of a pro., any soft or equipment can kick asses !!!

The key is : PROFESSIONALISM !

Go, Wrecked Go !!!

Wheehee, that's the spirit ! I agree totally. I'd love to do the same but i can't become a pro in a year, so how can i pay the rent (let alone the gear) without losing time to make music in the meantime ?

Boobytrip - you have been doing music for quite some time, havent you?

if you focus your energy on what you really want to do, and work hard everyday you will make it....
Of course you have obligations and i also heard you got a little baby
but all these things can become your power!

its more a state of mind than what surrounds you. dont think about the future, just grab the moment and start working with maximum dedication.

you will solve the rest!

Why we should be all professionals to be able to make music?? It does not make sense to me. I am not professional. I wont be professional. And I am still making noise and lots of fun with music production....           ...GrooveŽnŽdooR...

icodon - i think they attitude of a professional is the good thing, we dont need to release music or follow the "pro" trends...

just works as one... you understand me?

i wouldnt want to be a professional psytrance artists, just a studio geek

but i understand what you mean... and its a great hobby..
i think Atma missed a aspect of it all.. to have fun and just do what you like to do...
not everything needs to be dead serious...

Agreed. Everyone who is making music simply because they like it, because its fun, or because its simply the best way for them to express/vent their feelings/frustrations and channel their energy, better stop.

Well my friend, imagine this:
I am living in Romania, where a normal job is payed with 150 Eu, and all the prices are the same as in West Europe, some things are even more expensive (I pay only for internet 35 Euro/month)
So with all this fuk**ng money problem, i started to make psytrance music and afther i finnished highschool in '98 i rented an apartament and moved alone. I am working only music since than (no other job, no drugs sellings, etc..), evey day, and now i have a really nice studio, i have my own house, i can pay all my expences etc...
I am far from beeing a rich man, but i am happy with what i have, and most important thing: I DO WHAT I LIKE.
The hardest part is the beggining...it's hard to start life from ZERO, and to quit everything you have done before: like party's,clubs, friends, travell,smoking,drinking,....
I never been at an trance festival "just for fun" because i can't affort it! But since i am doing music, when i am booked at party's, i have "FUN" and also get payed!
it's simple

One more thing: if i did survived doing trance music in Romania, a country with almost no trance sceen, you can do it better in other places.
I just can't imagine peoples living in Germany (for example), complaining that life is hard and no money to live,no money for equipment etc..!
What the fuck ?? Stop smoking, drinking and spending money on bullshits !
Do something important with them !!
Imagine this: "My biggest dream when i was a child was to drink a Cola or PEPSI. I saw it only in movies! The first Cola i drinked when i was 12 yers old in 1990, afther the Romanian revolution."

Life is hard ?? I don't think so. We are the ones who make it looks hard

Good luck to all of you !

Atma and Boobytrip, your tracks are both on the compilation we sent to Psyshop..... Boobytrip, your production is fine, but like me I think you have alot of other things on your mind.

I made the best music with a friend I am inspired by. I am also inspired by things other than music, like elements of pyschology (which btw is the study of consciousness, not only human suffering and therapy) or when i am writing papers about evolution i find a clearness of mind and silence within me that helps me really hear the music again.

When I am busy with too many things at one time that I am not passionate about, i get frustrated and i cannot hear what i am doing... i really do think passion and clearity of mind are important for anything creative, otherwise it just comes from will, and thats not a beautiful thing to express.

i disagree with some points here.

first i think if someone wants to spend their time doing music as a hobby, they sure are free to do so.

still i know that most of my "chops" come from when i was at home unemployed making music nearly 20hours a day, but now i'm working as a consultant developer wich is very a demanding profession and i still feel improvments about everyweek as a producer.

of course i know that it's very diffcult, and i probably couldn't keep my day job and produce an album... but i still get the kicks out of it just by doing stuff everyday (ok... from time to time i have to take some days off, because of exhaustion).

and i do have other hobbys, like 3d engine (for use in computer games) development wich i do as a hobby too, in hope that once i'll see any cash from it, or simply look nice in my CV.

social life doens't suffer that much too, because when my $$$ allows it i'll be partying every possible party

to some point, being an amateur (amater in latin +/- "amador" can be traslated to "someone one who loves") enables me too created the music i want with no compromises with what is trendy at the moment (astrix?skazy?whatever?) and for me is more serious than just having to release to pay the rent.

Also, in a music newspaper there was a recently published article commenting the fact that many of the Portuguese top band artists do have day jobs, and sometimes that is the formula to be able to do great music (bad artists do bad music, you know the stuff that always rhyme... here we call in Pimba ,and during the summer have enough gigs to pay the whole year work).

so... even if sometimes i get frustrated by not finishing my tracks, i will still keep at it...

give up on my job for an year would only be possible if i was still living with my parents or having them to pay my bills, wich is not i'm sure i dont want them too.

btw, i dont have a home internet connection because it is too fucking expensive here and a month rent is lisbon (i have to live here where i can do my work) is about 600€ and the minimum wage is 375€, and yes i 've always drank cola until i decided i would do not it anymore because it's just an over-rated drink capable of over-throwing a pseudo-comunist regime

sy000321 - in that case, i wanna be a amateur that works in a professional way...

i also work fulltime... sometimes i feel i dont have time to do the things i love, but its mostly me that has a bad routine, and i make it a excuse that i work fulltime...

lots of things cost money, but i could manage with just a little, i got my drums and my juggle stuff, i would probably be a happy man if i could just drum and juggle all day in a sunny country
