genious.
it doesn't sound too good - cause he didn't scan it too well.
besides his code lacks many things... so if somebody will take this into hands and develop it - just think of it:
u take an old record, photograph it in good resolution,
and u got it.... A->D by picture 
i did a calculation: in order to be able to sample the record
at 96khz - u must have resolution of 1/960 mm ... it's microns (too tough)
but for 48khz - only 1/48 mm ... not too difficult.

Not sure because I have never seen one ..
Apparently they have been around for awhile but the quality of Analogue to digital converters has increased greatly in the last few years ..
I think the audiophiles who spend heaps on their equipment wouldn't be too big on the idea because the laser still has to convert..
Although at the bottom of the article they claim that it is superior sound to a cartridge which is useful to transfer to digital ..
