Its all about the place + memory man , Not the core or nothing . Im working on an nice P4 3000 with an 2 Hardiscs 80+120 = 200 And 2 Giga of memory (And thats is the secret - You dont need more) . I had many Cpu probs before , The cubase was freeze many time without any chance even to save the project - Only restart (When i had only 1 G) But now all is 100 (Just great !) . So dual or not this is not so metter , There is some tracks that im opening 20 vsts and efects at the same time (Got more then 50 heavy Vst's in here) . All about the memo mate . Thats all .

P.s - Make a test .. Take 1 Giga out and your computer die .

Err no CC, it depends on what the bottle neck in your system is. The best is to have a ballance between RAM and CPU power. There is not much point in putting 2GB of RAM into a Pentium II just like there is no point in running a Core Duo with 256 MB of RAM.

It is all about ballance. Or even better, the max of everything.

I'm exagerating but I'm sure you get my point: It isn't _just_ about the memory.

lolol

what you say makes no sense... memory isnt the only variable in the equation...

computers, motherboards, hardrives, etc are all made of tinny pieces, and of them count...

usually it's said that the overall performance is dependant on the worst performing part...           roll a joint or STFU :)

Im not an Cpu voodoo magician . If its work its work and if its not its not , Very simple . Here its work , And i didt even thought thats this solution its so eazy . Sure must be proportion but i can tell ya (From my little experience) That if i put more 2 G to 4 my computer will make me coffee and roll my joints .

So I finally decided to get a Core 2 Duo Cpu.
Found a nice 1 day used deal, consisting of a cheap Asrock motherboard, 2 GB of memory and this Cpu.
Bought this for just 400 Euros, and I must say it a huge improvement over my old P 4 2.4Ghz PC.
With just a quick test I was able to run 41 instances of Vanguard, a couple of Albino 3's, 1 or 2 Discovery's and a few other instruments + some FX.
All this running in Cubase SX running simultaneously!

Just to let you know how good those Cpu's are.
If you don't already have one, you should really consider it.

What kind of processor was it? Im getting a 2GHz core2duo with 4mb cache, is this the same as yours?           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

hmmm , i just upgraded , also a E6400 , thats chip mabe the second cheapest , but at just 2.13ghz , it paucks a PUNCH!
umm , there is no 2ghz core 2 with 4mb cache , the 4mb cache ones only start at 2.4ghz.
I LOVE my chip btw!
but i only have 1gb of HIGH speed ram (corsair xms 2)
hmm , the perfect system must be ballenced , that is true.
no point in owning a cray x1 with 8mb ram , rather a core 2 with 2 gigs ram...
...and i dont think hard drivs make a big difference , but mabe a certain motherboard , like i got a top of the range asus p5b dulux , and that is realy good , but i think the main factors to decide whether it is good or not , is cpu (dual core is best since one core handels part of the song , and the other handels the rest) , ram (fast acess storage were the program runs) and mabe a mother board with a high front side bus.

Well my new laptop has a T7200 (2.0 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB), how does that compare to the E6400? A little less clockspeed but double the Cache memory... sounds better to me? Anyone have a link to tests/comparisons etc?           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

I recently bought the core 2 duo E6600 and 2 gigs of ram and over clocked it to 3gigers & 4mb cache ... And I have seriously done research on the various chips that are out and came to this chip.... Cause it is the FASTEST and stays way more COOLER than the other chips, Even when overclock..... As far as dual core is concerned Core2 duo is king for the moment.... But at the end it is a balancing act on the parts you buy....choose wisely friends
