So I finally decided to get a Core 2 Duo Cpu.
Found a nice 1 day used deal, consisting of a cheap Asrock motherboard, 2 GB of memory and this Cpu.
Bought this for just 400 Euros, and I must say it a huge improvement over my old P 4 2.4Ghz PC.
With just a quick test I was able to run 41 instances of Vanguard, a couple of Albino 3's, 1 or 2 Discovery's and a few other instruments + some FX.
All this running in Cubase SX running simultaneously!
Just to let you know how good those Cpu's are.
If you don't already have one, you should really consider it. |

I think in 10 years from now, the CPUs are not going to be based on eletric impulses charge for informations exchange. Like a duo-quad-ten whatever core is today
Don't mind me, I love the idea and I'm happy you are satisfied with it
Its just the form of the processors that will change. The concept of having multiple of them running will never go out of fashion, I think
I believe that the CPU will be based on lasers, and the informations will be transported and exchanged thru lasers rays
Which is incredibly lighter and cooler, cause the lasers ray wont reach the tempeture of eletric charges
One of the major problems in those PC with more than 3.5ghz is the higher tempeture that can reach even 100 degres. Which is corrupting for the PC components and reduces its "life" by damaging it
The eletric cables will still be there, but just to instruct the laser rays path
Intel have been testing with those laser CPU based, and the great news is that they wont be expensive. The technology isn’t expensive at all. It will probably run 100 times faster than todays greatest computer for a reasonable price. More than we PC musicians
will ever need
I'm for myself a happy single core AMD64 3800 user, and I don't need to upgrade now, but I wll get on the ride and probably get a quad-core after they are all drived, tested and kicking for audio production. And then, maybe, those fancy laser chips heh |

hehe Sorry, that was not my intent
I said I'm happy you are satisfied with it and that is what really matters. Just like I'm sastfied by mine.
Also we are talking about a change of a decade here. In terms of technology is a lot of time, something that should not bring your mood down
With this system that you have, you are "updated" for a long time. Having 41 instances of VST playing at the same time its impressive indeed. And as I see it, good enough to please even the most maximalist eletronic composer. So I think you are more than right to be happy with it
Sorry for that anyways, mate |

just finished my dual core as well mine is AMD though, I'll see what I can do with it once I get my computer all finished (organizing/transfering samples, installing software etc...) maybe we can do a comparison, I have an AMD 64 x2 +4200...er maybe it's a +4100 either way it's damn fast, each core is running at 2.42g right now, still need to upgrade the ram though, I've only got 1 gig of ram. |

I use AMD 64x2 4800+ Dual Core, all I can say is that it lets me do some abusive work with inserts and instruments running wild. There is a point where it reaches to 90% of cpu, but, by then, I got a strong foundation of a track and I just freeze some parts or bounce.
The only thing is that I got only 1 gig of RAM, but I will add 1 or 2 gig more soon and see the difference. |
