it would be nice to hear more than one "style" "sub style" or kind of sound on one set (dj or live)
maybe nicely done in a smooth transitioned way that makes sense and tells a story...
just saying... sometimes this whole religious missionary zeal to show the world xyz sub-genre gets a bit over the top... the rest of us might like some variety... in the trance of course...not talking about throwing miley cyrus in the mix...           check new OCELOT, PROG-A-LOT and more on

So why you never do that?

As Anyer pointed, for internet mixes this is not uncommon (God, even Pavel done that before).

At parties it's more complicated, depending among other things on your time slot, you're not going to spin progressive @ 3AM in the middle of two darkpsy artists.

I've done that a couple of times before, and it worked partially. I was expecting to really blast the floor, but my feedback indicates that although people were dancing and enjoying it, few even noticed what I did.

The reason I think is that you should be really able to read the crowd to see if that's what will turn them on.

+1

that and the fact that I rarely get slots longer than 1.5 hours which don't really allow to go crazy... i am actually making a live set for next event that goes from 147 and towards the end goes darker and to 154bpm, not quite Neuro but going darker, because the kiddies want it...

short sets are stupid.

when i started to go out to parties early ninetees djs like sven väth spinned the decks for 6-8h+ and took you on a whole journey.

from 3-4 hours on the fun begins.. lets go back to that.

when i go to a festival now its like "whos playin now, oh fuck i had a shit and another act is on, wait i need a drink, oh another act is on.. oh would not have noticed from the music. boring. lights ciggy, oh new act. quel surprise."

playin long sets i often mix most psytrance genre altho its forest/dark based... i love make people listen to cheesy tracks without makin them notice it.

also i think people are too straight like we gotta have 5 hours of dark, 5 hours of goa 5 hours of full on....

for me this s old and stagnatin nowadays...

for the sake of trance progression i think those timin could be faster so we d have longer progressions in the parties and also in the festivals we would have changes like..... one time dark will be playin at the late time..other at day time...other at night.... same for all style.

As long as the listener is kept captivated, take it wherever it goes. But if the trance is broken, you've got to start all over again. That's why cheese or stupid music of any genre most likely won't work. For me.

It's funny how I see this scene now with like 1-2hr sets whereas I see the likes of Digweed, Sasha & even "00" Fleming coming out doing 6+ hours sets.

I saw Digweed last year spin 8 hours and it was amazing even though I'm not a huge Bedrock fan (now converted).

I'd kill to see a skilled dj do a set that long of goa/psy trance. Too bad the likes of Goa Gil IMO get these sets but just trainwreck.

Erez from Infected IMO had some talent for DJ'ing back in the day. Especially with being able to so easily pre-edit you collection to make for smooth mixing, it's a shame it doesn't happen often.           Cuntus Maximus.

As a DJ you're rarely given the opportunity to make these transitions nowadays - and it's a real shame, because they're challenging and much more fun. I think my best longer sets have either been when given a 3 hour timeslot for opening a party, or 3 hour slots at festivals where the acts before and after you aren't playing the same sound.

[Blatant self-promotion]

An example of a set I recorded a few years ago, going from progressive house and techno (~128 BPM) over progressive trance to full on (~142 BPM) in a couple of hours:

I usually enjoy the sets that change alot of time as well. Going from 128 to 140 in a few hours is fun!

prOfane is one of the djs I'd like to see do a 4 hour set
Most other dj's just focus on one style and a small bpm range..           soundcloud.com/supergroover
