Just some info for all of you, i got the idea to start a workshop music production last year, basically i invited a lot of people in and around Amsterdam who are making electronic music. The idea is to share knowledge about Cubase, Ableton etc, listen to each others tracks and to get people together and to know what others are doing. This workshop turned out to be a great succes, 22 people showed up and in two weeks we will have the second one. It's all non profit, and a nice way to meet people other then on parties. Think about doing this in your hometown, it's fun ! |

Iepz... We're planning this in Belgium too (the guys from Lani were talking about it on psychedelic.be, but nothing concrete yet), but the more workshops the better, meeting new people is essential to becoming a musician too... And since i'm from Belgium i can come easily...
Do we need to take things with us? Like a synth or our computer or something like that? Also, do we have to prove what we are worth to come?
I don't know if i can come yet, so don't see this as a promise... |

I do a lot of these workshops in South Africa, towards the youth from the townships here who really are great to work with. I started off with just two SL1200's now we got two sets of decks, CDJ's and a full-on studio. Generally its just a place for these people to get hands-on, but we have done lots of workshops. Its all free and voluntary, I really have made sure it has nothing to do with money, much easier that way - the KISS principle. Although the punters are into deep house, I keep getting them to listen to psy 'cause they must study the production techniques used. (he he)
I am now trying to organise a synth workshop. We got Reason etc but it hard for these people to get into it so I want to teach the real basics, any suggestions for some software to teach the synth basics?
Take a look at the pics from a MIDI Workshop we did http://www.spinout.org.za/events/MIDIWorkshop20March2004/pics.html

to teach the basics there's nothing better then an old and cheap real analogue, but it's big and needs to be handled with more care, so... Especialy the ones who have the circuit drawn on the front panel are great to teach (like the yamaha cs-10) |
