ok, here something completely different, which may sound a bit weird:
I'm very interested in acoustic neurotechnology (like binaural beats) and the healing effect of music in general.
So I wonder if somebody here has experience with using brain stimulating frequencies in music?

I thought about this many times, and what i think, music already contains brainstimulating frequenices, hehe maybe even some unexplainable..
but why not take it a step further and add some Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta stuff...
good luck! |

hi man
for my degree in psycology i made an investigation (thesis) which is a comparative study of the effects of shamanic drumming and psychedelic trance in the EEG (Electroencephalograph), or more likely in the brain's electromagnetic waves...
if ure interested in my study u can contact me at
funghifunk@hotmail.com
its in spanish though , but i think its very interesting topic. hehehehe

well its nice idea
check this link http://www.bwgen.com/
the problem with that that the binaural beats r created by phasing inside ur head between the ears
so music u talking about have to be played at headphones
there must be complete seperation between the left and right and no leaking of this panning so left ear wont hear nothing from right ch and oposite
this effect is imposible to generate with PA or Hi-Fi sysystems.....
but there is alot of music that do simular effect to that
mostly music for meditations or tribe
little lfo's running thru all the tracks, beats in sertain sequence, panned "casual" clicks and more
some of those can exite the brain to work in sertain friquency but its not the same as real binaural beats
well anyway nice issue to discuss
keep it running maybe there will be some brakethrue

I have see your link. But the human ears cant hear frequencies from 20Hz-20Khz. 0,5Hz-30Hz its tooooo Low to hear them. What do you think? Are sub sounds.

well u totaly lost the point
read the faq there
its frequency of phase not friquensy of sound

yeah you create the beats by pitching L and R off of one another by the desired frequency. works only in true binaural state, phones. i used to work (job) to a program like pwgen every day, it definitely increased alertness. made me a little crazy, so i stopped. sometimes entrainment can be a bad thing.
consider this:
~140bpm = 2.3 bps
eighth notes = 4.6bps
sixteenth notes = 9.3bps, right in the middle of alpha state, which is considered by some to be true concentration and learning
trance possibly entrains toward alpha state dominance... no wonder we have threads upon threads about full on basslines! people just wanna concentrate!
nothing happens by accident

My father told me he went to a photographic galery where the photographer has done photos of crystals of water under the effect of different kind of music he told me that it was impressive, with soft music like classical or chill out, there were a lots of nices and bigs crystals, with hard techno or metal there was no crystal at all Oo
I don't know something more, but if you are interested in this I can ask my papa |

isnt that the principle of a phaser or flanger fx? pitching up and down left and right in a difrent way very slightly and slow?
there is also a psychoacustic phenomenon in our brain called beat frequencies wich happen when 2 wave forms are playing both time and are not more than 20hz far from each other. creates a "vibrato" thing in the sound. u can make and listen this with any speacker.
still i dont see what this and alpha, beta, gama & tetha freqs. are related.
whate does this stands for? what are the caracteristics of each one of these freq. types or states or whatever it might be?
i defenitly would love to know more about this..
according with what u just wrote alpha freq. is related to the rythm and not with the pitchfreq at all?

Here are the frequencies of the human brainwaves, maybe this helps:
Delta Waves = below 4.0 hz (very deep dreamless sleep)
Theta Waves = 4.0 hz to 7.0 hz (REM sleep and deep meditation)
Alpha Waves=8.0 hz to 13.0 hz (relaxed, daydreaming)
Beta Waves = 13.0 hz to 40.0 hz (focused)

well, to get more practical tips on this was exactly why I started this thread. Of corse you can simply generate these frequencies using tools like Brainwavegenerator, export as wave and mix this to your track. But a constant sine wave sound is not what I'm looking for. I wondered what else you can do with these frequencies? Maybe use for LFO speed? Maybe calculate certain BPM? I have no idea but I find this very intersting... |

Nice topic.. i with a friend were talkin about this and trying to understand how we can achive those effects on purpose. The issue is that beside the theoritical part probably the hardware and the place matters. For example, if we have a sound playing every 13hz, brain gets in alpha state? I hope that throu that topic we ll get a more clear picture of the psychoacoustics!
