doesn it make a difference if you make a track on 96000kh 24bit (since a cd is 16bit 44100khz) ? .......just to let you know ive been working that way and i want to know if thats what most producers with good soundcards do |

btw the k in khz means 1000
so 96000khz is 96000000hz which is simply insane.
u mean mean 96khz
its not mandatory.
personally i work at 44.1/24.

i am amazed to find out that soo many ppl out here just use 44.1khz / 24 bit which in my opinion suxxxx .....
i use 44.1 khz and the when i just switch over to 48khz the diference is really noticable .
if ppl here really want good productions , then one thing to be kept in mind is that always work in the highest resolution u can afford ... i mean ur soundcard
if u make a track at 96khz/24 bit , all dsp is done at 96khz . even though a cd can only take 44.1khz , when the dithering is done the effect / fidelity of the 96khz will still be audible as compared to just 44.1khz
coz at 44.1khz as per nyquist theorem barely 20khz is sampled properly ,so all harmonics above 20khz are never even bought into the picture . but if working at 96khz the least freq. to be sample at a minimal of twice will be 48khz and thts where the whole deal is ...
so if possible use 96khz and see [ hear] the differece for urself...
bye and take care .

trouble is 96khz takes over twice the filesize of 44.1khz, and i filled my 80gb hard disk within about 3 months as it is.
i now have about 400 meg free, each project is 2-4GB and takes about 10 cds to back up. and i dont have a burner so i have to copy across the LAN before burning. Major PITA.

not only that but the CPU load is so high.... I have an old 2000+ athlon so can only manage 48kHz, unless I bounce _everything_ to audio immediately which i dont like to do.
when i buy a new machine (when I win the lottery) Ill work at 96kHz : cheap HDDs now, and fast CPUs....

I want to underline what "global T. N." said:
The DSPing is the important thing..
yes we don't hear above 20kHz, but whats important is that for example EQs sound (in my ears) 1000 time nicer, warmer, more genuine on 96kHz.
The file size... really sux... here in switzerland we can get DVD burners for 120Euros now... maybe this will be an investion worth..
Very nice posts here
