I work an office job 36 hours a week and when I get home mostly I am not in the mood to make music. When I have more free time in weekends or time off I feel more inspired musically.

it complemets each other ... like the ying and yang... more frustration in one means a boost of energy on the other.
but best is to get both going at a medium pace ( weekends ) . and enjoy the ride ... if u have fun doing it , u can always do it |

I work during the week 12am-7am then go to school for electronics engineering from 8am to 1pm. I dj at events on the weekends, and I have to find time to hang out with my girlfriend (whom I live with). Right now I barely ever have time to make music
I went to school so I can get a better job, hopefully I can work short hours since it pays really well, then I can focus more time on music.
As far as not thinking about music while you're at work, I don't think there is much for it, except try and do something you can be interested in for a living, then it wont be so hard to not think about music at work.

WORK WORK WORK, i too get home tired and burnt but from being in front of a computer designing all day,
my biggest problem is my back and neck, be killing me
I have ideas still so i made my laptop a notepad
i lay down bed and program some stuff that i can always export
to my main DAW if it proves any good, also this has helped me be more focused in automation and overall arangement since my laptop is not really powerful, we tend to loose track on that main powerful cpu getting carried away with synths and efx not the arragement,
so i guess our issues can be blessings indisquise.
keep a mind positive, is my best advice!

I can second that argument, I live with my girlfriend and when she is at home it's very hard to get away to make music. Most of the time I get to make music is when she is at work or hanging out with her friends.

Hmm...thats a point i really think about right now..i work 50 hours a week and travel there 40 min so i`m off my home for at least 11 1/2 hours..even on saturday i have to work 6 hours, where i get half a day off in the week...i talk whole day about music and technic tuff and even at home with my friends..it really starts to bore me and i don`t think i can stand this for a long time..was at school for audio engineering 21 months before..all i can say i start to be disapointed..it`s hard to get a good job in audio business over here,so i don`t know what to do in the moment..work affects my music as well don`t like it either.. money definatly sucks!!

this year i had a job (half-time, 20 hours a week) plus university (plus homework), it was hard to find some time to make music...because i like to spend a whole day focusing on a track or long sessions. I was just able to find some riffs, programming patches or tweaking some samples..(1h a day or less)
In fact when u do that you accumulate loads of material and your workflow is improved when u stick on serious sessions. It's an other way to work...
Hah, and i wonder if famous trance artists like Painkiller, Dynamo, Absolum etc are making a living just with their gigs ?

I work in a small studio and reherasal room, it's a day on / day off thing so I got lots of time for music making + it's fun when I'm there.
On the other hand, it's really not enough for living (my payslip looks more like pocket money than proper waiges) so I'm back at my parents house, spending a lot of time in my studio but crying for the loss of my privacy (which also doesn't help with creativity)...
Think I'm gonna get a proper day job for a while and move out of my parents house(!) |
