I have a question that i doubt it has an easy answer. I noticed that there are very few women doing trance or djing... trying to remember names and the only one that occurs to me at the moment is Domino.
What do you think about it? Do you think women in general are not talented to do music?
Or maybe men aren't willing to change their places with the 'weak' sex?!

I would like to see posts from both 'sides'...

And women are not weak, as you put it...

Women do make music.. look at Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Nico, Patricia Barber, Eva Caissidy, Ella Fitzgerald, Sinead O'Connor, Carole King, Dusty Springfield, Nanci Sinatra, Bjork, alanis Morissette, Annie Lennox, Janis Joplin...
Oh, and in psytrance there's Miranda and Psycho Bitch or what's her name.

Statistically, men do make more music than women, and in psytrance it's very obvious.
I don't have an explanation for that, but I do believe that there's no difference in the quality or so.
Maybe women are less interested in making music or so. But there sure are women who do make music and do it good.

I've just began playing the piano, and once I get it well I wanna study composing and start composing music on my own.

cheers.

Who knows why girls dont make as much trance as guys. I doubt it has anything to do with the "man" keeping them down tho.

There are women in 'other' areas of trance tho,

Good one vertigOA! Definately photoshop...

Well, to me it's a systematic thing. Young girls do not play on the computer as young boys do. It's hard to find girls that are interested and knows about computers, programming or troubleshooting. Thus the vast minority of girls doing electronic music.... Not as interested as men are (overall)! imo...

Thank god it's like that... Girls are busy doing other stuff because if they decided to work with music they would probably control the scene. Why? Why do you think?...

          cna't find it

in my opinion, it has nothing to do with computers or programming, but with education for freedom.
if you take a good look at classical music you find only men composers. almost nothing has changed.

I think that if you look in the history of humankind, you see that women were always treated with an open contempt for attempting to try anything on a world level, women were not taught mathematics at a high level (even though some of the most prominant mathematicians of the 17-19th centuries were woman that had to defy their families wishes of pursuing a 'feminine' education), or any of the arts on a high level.

Up to this century, women were supposed to have wide but not in depth knowledge. The purpose of their education was to be able to entertain their husbands. Therefor the example of classical music is irrelevant.

Today, technical subjects (such as usage of computers) are considered unfeminine, in young ages while men are strongly supported in playing the guitar/piano, women are much less pushed towards musical education, hence the lack of women making electronic music in particular (since their is a need in knowledge in both these fields, not just one).

Psuedo-relevant trivia: Little girls that DO use computers tend to have much more social usage of it and tend to work with others, while boys in the same age-group tend to hog it for themselves.

Kaz, thank you very much for standing up for us.
You have explained things in perfect way.
You know, I remember when I was a kid I totally acted like a boy. I was playing football and stuff, until my father thought that if I continued this way I would become a lesbian. So he forbid me to do things that were “male occupations”.
And I’m sure I’m not the only case.
Today there are more and more women involved in the trance scene. And if it’s not djing it’s behind the surface. Women are not weak! (Although there are many women who like to play that game). On the contrary.
It’s only a matter of time until we will rule the world (muuuuaaa muuuuaaaa muuuuaaaa)… Kidding
