Why are most every genre in the Electronic Music world represented this week besides psy trance? |

Because psytrance has never been accepted into the more "mainstream" circles of dance music. Funny because I find it far and away the easiest to dance to. |

What's a Winter Music Conference?
Perhaps we'd rather dance than watch football? Usually there's hair cutting conventions this weekend. Stay away from those too.

Yes it is very good that psytrance is not at the Winter Music Conference. The WMC caters to a much more commercial crowd and scene.

Some forms of "PSYTRANCE" could get played; I'm sure Infected Mushroom has played at the WMC before.
I honestly would not be surprised to start seeing some Full-On artists in the next few years though; Astrix being the most likely.
Remember, all these other genres of EDM have underground versions of their scenes as well as the more "above ground" parts. If PSYTRANCE were to start getting playtime at these big mainstream events, I think it would be a great thing for all! Love=Music, spread the love!
And to the resident TRANCERS, YES we can still have an underground PSY scene when this stuff hits the fan.

Psytrance is always at WMC, and Ultra. I try to go every year, and had some of the best times of my life. There is always a Psytrance stage at the ECO Village on Sat night at Ultra. They release the Psy linup with phase 3 announcements. The stage is behind the VIP area, killer location,kind of hidden away, by the water. We stomp our asses off every year! Also Infected is on the main stage, even though most dont consider that Psy anymore. Either way ,its a fun ass week!

OK. Thank you for the explanation. I'll be able to follow the posts better knowing what it is, but I suppose it won't much matter as I'm not going to Miami. I'm off to Denver this weekend. 
I thought there was only psychedelic trance and progressive psychedelic trance. You're telling me there's more kinds of music and the ones I thought were the only ones are the ones that won't be played there, except for the one time that Audio Virus mentions? Just kidding, I know there's a couple more kinds of electronic dance music.

I went a few years ago to the Ultra party and located a psy-trance booth / shop that had a dj with a small PA , and I ended up hanging out there most of the day/night just to hear some psy ..

it's in March. Spring Break week.
I'd like to go once to see some of the non-psy talent that's there.. techno, house, the big name DJs from all over the world are going to be playing, heard it was a lot of fun and no sleep for a week..

This is off-topic, but sort of related.
It's strange that for people who like psytrance, every other genre is 'commercial' just because it's played in clubs - even though the music is often quite good and less cheesy than most psytrance. It's a strange and outdated point of view, and if we can do away with it, maybe there won't be such a chasm between the cheesy-ass "commercial" and the uber-hard "underground" versions of psytrance that are currently around. I remember when the music could be both psychedelic and suitable to be played both on the beach or in a club.. and "normal" non-psy intelligent people could appreciate it without too much effort.

Agreed mate, psy is represented somewhat during the week but in my opinion not nearly enough. Yes there is a stage at Ultra where you will get 4-5 very good dj's playing killer psy. But what Im talkin about is a all psy party thrown by a big time label like haomega, flying rhino, twisted records that would showcase their artists like alot of the big labels do here in Miami. I remember back in 2003 or 2004 Tsunami threw a party down here that was all psy. And no, Infected Mushroom just does not cut it for me. |
