I've upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 64-bit and I'm running 32 bit version of Cubase 4 (since some of my plugins won't work with the 64 bit version) and it's working a little better than it did with XP, even though I'm not utilizing the 64 bit functionality. It feels like I've upgraded my computer.
@Splinter: I'm using the Waves bundle without any problems whatsoever witn Windows 7, but only the 32 bit version, since the they don't seem to work with the 64 bit version of Cubase 4.
All in all, after having used it for a couple of months, I'm a big fan of Windows 7 for music production =)

Or you could try xp64bit pro? I'm currently running that however, I like windows 7. So I was thinking of installing or (upgrading rather) but I don't want to end up with shit not working and having to go back to xp 64bit

if it ain't broke don't try and fix it!!!!!

Well the choice is of course up to you, but at least for me personally, upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit has been a win-win situation. Everything seems more stable, but the big difference for me is that the games I play get quite a big improvement (frame rates going up by 10-40%). XP used to be my favourite OS too, tried Windows Vista for a while but went back to XP cause Vista was just a beautiful looking piece of crap imo, but after trying Windows 7 there's no way I'm going back =)
Imo, Windows 7 is what Vista should have been but never was.

didnt read the last page, but is there no one between here mentioning that xp is not able to work with more RAM than 3 gb or is it just not needed
at least the (some more) advantages of a 64bit engine are without a doubt worth to have a look at. heared only good on win7 and i dunno further details but read something about an OEM version without all this unneeded stuff always trying to update itsself etc.
anyways, im on a mac, just thinking about to upgrade my pc to win7 because it´s really running scary slow for a dual core 2,4 with 4gb really good RAM. and like i said, mine is only running 3GB....
gladly on a mac i never had these issues again with no running vsts, fatal error messages, etc....

+2, although Logic 7 and Logic 8 have crashed more times on my MacPro than Logic 4 and Logic 5 crashed on my old Win 98 PC.

Always happy to see Mac Vs. PC flame wars are sill in fashion....if only I could convince people to put all that effort into a worthwhile cause!

Actually, if you use the 64 bit version of windows XP you can still use over 3gb of memory. It's only the 32 bit versions that can't use over 3gb.
Dharma Lab: This is very far from a flame war, this is a few ppl saying "Mac rules" and some ppl saying "PC rules", I don't see any hostility or even ppl trying to convince eachother =)

i'm running Cubase 5.1.1 (32-bit) on Windows 7 (64-bit) and very happy.
an important point: actually, as far as i am aware Cubase 5 (32-bit) in a 64-bit OS will still see up to 4Gb of RAM. so if you have a 6Gb machine then the system etc. will use 2 and Cubase is free to use the rest.
i agree with all the comments about W7 so far... to me, it's miles ahead of XP. it's very fast, very clean, and so far (fingers crossed!) pretty stable. i have a few buggy plugins but nothing major.
i have an i5 with 4Gb of RAM and it's plenty for my purposes... haven't managed to get the CPU meter above 50%.
