If you are using old plugins like Dcota on Windows 7 you should expect issues due to the fact that the plugin itself has been discontinued so there is no way that the plugin manufacturer has made their plugins code Windows 7 (especially 64bit) compatible.
After installing Cubase 5.1.1 there are no problems with any plugins for me any-more as this is Steinbergs official Windows 7 compatible version of Cubase. I still have a few issues using 32bit plugins via JBridge in Windows 64bit/Cubase 5 64bit but all other 64bit plugins i use work perfectly.
also you will find that if you are using Cracked software the chances of it all being stable and working perfectly are very slim indeed no matter what the OS.

C5 (32 bit) and windows 7 work great together...no issues....My Saffire le, I had to downgrade to the legacy firewire driver for it to work, but aside from that no issues....The 64 bit version of C5, you run into issues with 32 bit plugins, because their touted VST bridge is really crap and can totally freeze a project you are working on, so you cant mix it down.....
But to bypass the 64 but issues, just use the x86 platform and you will be fine... assumption is the mother of all fuckups. |

I was a big fan of XP for many years, but when I upgraded my PC I went for Vista64.
I only really use Reason, which didn't give any 64-bit issues - apart from the installer (I think).
I think 64-bit is definitely the way forward. Now seems like the right time to be embracing the technology - the initial problems have mostly been ironed out.
The 64-bit support in XP is not great.
I haven't yet used Windows 7, but I've heard that it has many improvements on Vista.
I'd go Windows 7 64-bit; there's not much point in embracing old technology in XP. |

Dunno where you got this info mate, but it ain't correct. Most Windows versions are obviously designed with backwards compatibility in mind but lots of programs need to be patched. As for Win 7, AFAIK its based on the Vista64 architecture, not XP.
If you run Win 7 Professional or Ultimate editions, you can download for free a program called "XP Mode" which will simulate XP as a virtual machine hosted on Win 7. This guarantees you can run XP legacy applications, however at the degraded performance that is always the case with virtual machines.
I got a new laptop with Win7 64 bit, and it took me a couple of days of testing and reading on the Internet before I had a nice configuration. Cubase 5.1 seems stable. That said, some old VST's had to go, which I'm not to happy about actually.
Also, it seems I might have to get a new soundcard as my old trusty is extremely prone to dropouts even with updated Win7 drivers...*cough*..m-audio...
I also tried Ableton Live 8, which was interesting as it is not yet officially compatible. It'll run though, but with a nasty graphics performance bug causing all level meters etc to move reeaallyyy sloooow.
This can be remedied by executing Live in compatibility mode for Vista32 SP2. However in that mode a bunch of vst's won't work and causes Live to crash. Also there are problems with vst authorizations. I had to perform those in Cubase before they would work in Live, yet even sometimes Live would undo the authorization making me have to reinstall the software. I'm uninstalling Ableton now, no point using in Win7 before next release/update.
All in all, if I was sitting on an XP machine that I was happy with I would definitely wait. Win7 compatibility is still sketchy and be sure to check you have proper drivers for everything if you intend to upgrade.
That was a long one, just thought I'd share...
Cheers! |

I use Win 7 64 and Ableton Live 8 and rarely have issues...haven't found a VST yet that doesn't work
Ableton did crash a couple of times when I initially installed but hasn't in 2+ weeks, I also hear that 8.08 is supposed to be particularly stable (as opposed to the newer 8.1), however I'm at 8.01 so I don't know first hand
There's no one substantial feature/function of 7 that makes it far and away better than XP, but all of the little nice things about it in terms of looks/UI improvements add up and make it for me a preferred experience to XP, also considering that I don't have to give anything up in order to make the move...I might feel differently if some VST that I really liked didn't work

working here, on both 32 & 64 bits versions of Seven Ultimate. But kinda weird in cpu usage ... and you must use the vst version, not DXi ! |
