Hi,
I have made a small research in topics already posted here before according to whether it is a stable operating system to use or not yet...
A few topics raised and had good information as to whether it is still not a good thing to use vista due to the fact that still some drivers are not updated to work with vista...
Those topics though are 3-4 months old...
So any news about it? Any users tried them yet? Working or not...
Lets hear your experiences...

Don't know about stability, but from what I understand Vista's a real resource hog, and we don't need slower computers so I don't see any reason to upgrade really. How come you're thinking about it? |

Honestly, don't bother. Don't ask questions.. just don't do it!
Stick to what works until you're forced to move. It is a resource hog, it isn't quicker. I don't care what benchmarks people are using, I work in IT and I fix it all the time. A decent XP install (especially Tiny) will kill it any day of the week.
Keep your money and spend it on a processor upgrade or a stick of Ram and never look back. |

not really, you just boot from the XP disc as you normally would.
Vista is a no go. |

Vista is not ready for NOTHING yet !!!
As you all know the SP2 of XP, befor it was published there were many many shitty stuff to fix and repair. As the xp had it's bad times - the Vista is too... Don't upgrade at least until the 1st SP...
I also work in IT and there is ALOT of software out there that does not compatible with Vista :
Acrobat Reader, WinZip, some AntiVirus and more...
As Tomos said - better hardware B4 better Operating system... |

Worth mentioning - some manufacturers allow the choice of 'NO OS' when you buy their systems. So put on your own XP if you want.
It's better to build your own DAW and spec it to your needs, but it might not be as cheap as a pre-built system as companies buy everything in bulk. |

I have 3 workstations dedicated to music and one of them with VISTA pro.
No problem found with ABLETON LIVE,ACID PR,SONAR,Arturia plug ins,NAtive Instruments plug ins.
Only problem you may have is with the drivers for your soundcard or other external pheripherials.Me using Asio4ALl drivers and they do teh trick.
I found it having even less latency than on my XP , using Maudio and Novation USB midi controllers.
Apart from that ,VISTA works flawless.I used it just few days ago for the first time doing a Live at GLADE and it did not crash at all.

I'm not convinced. You don't mention what resources you have on each box. Being that you have only one of the three with Vista I'll bet that is the newest computer?
Anyway, what name were you playing under at Glade? I missed it as I was VJing at a party in London
Really wanted to go. Haven't done a single festival this year. |

According to performance test made by people in the ableton forums it seems like Vista can run more plugins on the same CPU.
Sure windows get more bloated each version, and the default install of XP demands more from the machine than 98. But with some tweaking it will run better and I installed it on a few very aging machines and getting noticably better performance than with 98.
I guess the same is true for Vista.
But even if my sound card had the drivers I guess I would not think it's worth the potential hassle for something like a 5% performance boost, so I'm not thinking about upgrading just yet.

Yes it is the newest computer. A CORE2 T7400 2Ghz,877 FBS,2Gb Ram.
Nothing fancy really.
My point is,It is probably not worth to upgrade to VISTA if your PC came with XP (i.e. not a new machine.
But if you getting a new pc and it comes with Vista,I wouldnt take the hassle to re-install Windows XP just because of some roumors on the net (usually from people not with a direct experience on it)saying that Vista is crap.
FYI i would never change anything that works, and as a matter of fact I still have an SP1 on one of my machine.
I played in the IDSPiral stage under the name RaNDom. m(_ _)m

I just bought a laptop and came with vista installed. Now, like my friend above said, is not the best solution to remove original home premium vista from it, and install XP.
Now, if there are some bugs and stuff needed to be fixed, of course there will be, but the only thing i want is my live to run smoothly
I will go for it like it is, and I hope i will not face any problem
Thank u all for sharing your thoughts and experiences...
