I just got a new machine that came with Vista...haven't blown it away yet but it is as bad as everything you read about it. For DAW purposes its probly even much worse than what you read about it. |

I would avoid VISTA!!
Many new notebooks have NO Win XP drivers anymore!
I was shocked to discover!
Some brands do not develop XP drivers for new models. So make sure you can get them before you buy.
Macbook Pros are a bit expensive compared to others. but there you get XP drivers for sure.

i'm working on vista with sp1 (32bit, home proffesional version), using cubase 4 studio, on notebook MSI GX700 gamers edition (core2duo 2.4 ghz, 2gb ram, 1gb flashram, 240 gb hdd), and i'm absolutely satisfied with this OS... i havn't problems, everything works fine.. i had little problems on XP in cubase4 with asio spikes, even on 0% cpu load (some ppl have this problem with usb soundards as i read on cubase.net), but now in Vista the problems arent here anymore and everything is fine and stable...
so i must say thumbs up for vista.. )

I went for the macbook pro and logic 8, it runs stable and Osx is an amazing OS compared to Windows, but all in all its quite a bit more expensive. |

I wish Microsoft would stop sending employees onto the forums to promote Vista.
Haha.. no, but seriously. Vista sucks. |

| IBM T60 runs 10.5.1 smooth out of the box, no additional patches required. Haven't checked it on the new T61 yet. In terms of built quality, the IBM "T" series laptops are the only ones that can be compared to Apple MacBooks Pro imho.

Tomos: believe i'm not M$ employe, in fact even two moth back i was saying to every my friend "i will NEVER go to vista" ) but then i got burned my old laptop and i need quickly new (i'm web developer and my nootebook is not only center of my ministudio but also my main work-toool ). so i buyed this book with pre-installed vista.. i haven't then time to reinstall XP (some deadlines and so on) .. so i decided stay until i finish my actual works under vista and then migrate back to XP ..
... but as time goes, i get very familiar with vista and now i don't back to XP .. i turned off all microsoft's f*cking vista "tweaks" like AERO, user rights management and now, as i say - vista 32bit is very OK for me now.. believe or not ;-)
most important for me is, that vista solved my problem with cubase 4 studio, becasue waiting for patch from steinbergs is neverening story

I bought a Notebook with vista ...
and it sucked big time ... alot of hardware wasn't recognized ... allmost no drivers for old hardware ...lots of software problem ...
I downgraded to XP after some Months ... i was realy afraid in first case because there is no garantie for downgrades to XP from HP ... and they strictly recomend to stay with vista ...because some drivers wouldn't be aviable for motherboard e.t.c. on Xp --->
I downgraded and everything works perfectly ...
but i had to search quite a few houers untill i found all drivers for my notebook ...
i can recomend a PC with XP ...
but if u get enought money maybe go for a Mac with XP ...
All the best --->

Im stil searching for a lap top, i found some pretty cool HP lap tops but hp site has no sense, some models have xp drivers but not complete, i mean, some have almost all drivers but not motherboard, other have motherboard but not video, it has no sense at all. DELL has drivers for XP for some models but i kinda fear DELL lap tops, and macbooks for me seem like a PSP (too small) and pro too expensive, so if anyone can name some specific lap top's that can be downgraded with no prob i would really appreciate it,thanks |

My HP Pavilion 6000 had vista on it, but trashed it and got XP... if you spend a few hours looking, you can find all drivers for all HP's laptop devices...
