I just reformated my DAW to a windows xp professional with service pack 3. Before i used tiny xp revision 6, and it recognized 3 GB of the 4GB thats installed on the system, but on this normal edition, i can only see 2 GB of them. This causes major problems for me in my projects, stuff like i get the messagde from nuendo that i could not save because there is not enough memory. Is there a known fix for this problem ? all the RAM still works fine.

ps. in system settings whats best - cpu is set to background service, but what about memory usage ? is it better to have it on programs, or system cache ?

better to have memory set on programs, cpu to background services cause it works better with the drivers, asio etc.

the problem with the memory might be due to the bios on your system
i guess when you start the engine it counts until 2048 and not till 3000, is that right?
check the type of your motherboard and if theres an update for the bios of it or maybe ask in the motherboard brand forum, asus or gigabyte i assume .. these problems really suck big time .. good luck

Hi gutter thanks for the fast response.

I can't see it, it only shows the graphic card ram counting to 128mb. And it doesnt respond to ´press DEL to enter setup´. Must be my USB keyboards fault that it doesnt work during bootup. I will try see if theres a new update for the bios

USB keyboard should enter BIOS. Try a PS/2 keyboard, BIOS is an important place to access...

The funny thing is that in most bios' you can choose to enable usb keyboard support. But in order to do that you need a ps/2 keyboard first hehehe

It's an issue with 32 bit systems.
Try this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366796(VS.85).aspx
Or google for 4GB and Windows XP or something.           http://enjoys.it

I was going to chime in that this really smelled of a hardware problem, as there is no 2GB limit in windows. Glad you got it fixed. Don;t be afraid to re-seat your RAM when things like this happen. You can also clean the contacts off with an eraser. These things can help when RAM is not being detected.

In regards to :http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366796(VS.85).aspx

PAE only works for programs that are coded to take advantage of it, and it's no small undertaking I'm told. The only programs I know that ever did this are large enterprise type software, like backend databases. I do not believe any DAW's support PAE right now, but I could be wrong.
