that link sadly doesn`t work, but if its the standard windows sound stuff its already disabled..
and with Ti chipset , this is more or less a myth from my experience..might work for some, but it could have woked with other chipsets as well..

Yes, I was talking about the standard windows sound (and disabling the "play windows startup sound" too).
I had lot of trouble with VIA chipset on fw card and changing for a TI card solved that.
Also found this information on the net:

-->[...] and have been proven to be a problem of the new FireWire driver from MS that is part of Windows 7. We have written confirmation that a fix will most probably not be available within the next 12 months.
Lol, thanks Micro$oft.
I was lucky with my setup and got it to work with Windows 7 64 bit.
I'm really happy with it (nice perfs, stable and supporting 8gb of ram).
But Microsoft really sucks regarding the firewire support.

99% of the time on forums when i hear about people having problems with crackles and dropouts for firewire interfaces, it's solved when they get a TI chip. |

hello
can someone tell me if its good to go from xp to 7 (32/64 bit) for music production?
I'm happy running xp, everything works (use alot of old pluginz).
But the extra ram you get with 7 is appealing...
hardware specs: -abit P5K-E wifi AP
-Q6600
-4 Gig ram (not used to full extend by xp)
-onboard soundcard (shame on me i know)
My main DAW is ableton.
thanks for the info.

First, you have to be sure your sound card (and midi controller if you have one) have 64bit drivers...
(you need a 64bit Windows to add more than 4Gb of RAM) |
