I think you can use the qualizer as you please... whatever makes you happy - depends on your speakers and system, make it sound the way you like.

there is no best configuration that fits every room           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

You shouldn't use the EQ in winamp, it distorts the sound.           ________________________

1st. it does indeed distort the sound.
2nd. @Plutodelic: the settings you posted have unneccesary boost on the very high freqs.. 14k and 16k!!! what is supposed to play there that needs boost ?           extreme

First up, every track sounds different so there can never be a one size fits all EQ. Secondly, everyone has different speakers, room accoustics, hearing and taste.

Most importantly though, your settings are guaranteed to distort the sound. The Winamp EQ isn't good but boosting frequencies (and very often lowering frequencies) are sure to give you digial clipping.

Leave it off is my advice.

And go for DSP plugins at www.winamp.com, there are lots of pro plug-ins that replace the original EQ's. There are some great enhancing plugins as well.           Bring yourselves into the light

Can you recommend something? I once tried to find decent eq for the winamp, but the best I could come up was the izotope ozone for winamp but the try-out doesn't have adjustable eq and it has bunch of stuff i don't need (reverb, anyone?)
