I know there have been plenty of topics on tweaks but i thought i remind some of you how much resources you can save disabling services in Windows XP.
Currently i have 9 services enabled and everything is running rock-solid, ofcourse its dependable on what you require (i would not recommend people actually copying my situation, its just an example with how few you can still have a stable system - but looking into it really might help you to free more memory.
This screenshot shows what i have enabled (still connected to the internet):

Theres a lot of services there which i only start when i need them, anyway..thought it might come in handy.
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/service411.htm#Alerter is a good site with information on the subject.

you can turn off cryptographic services
also, unless you use the DHCP network feature, you don't need it.

and of course - theres a thing which i have in mind about making ur pc faster...:
#
if u run raid - 0 1 or whatever with sata hdds - it is faster to have it running just over sata without raid.
u have to do the following:
make one physical drive the one where u have ur whole programs and vsts and system running and installed to.
on ur second physical hdd u put every temp folder , swap files ( the one windows uses also ) or data storage stuff - audio files , recorded stuff and so on - then u have to keep ur system disk well defragged ;-)...
If u run a configuration ilke that instead of raid u will gain about 20 % more speed from ur hdds...
I know this is much effort - but the reward
vindicates it...
Nice Weekend
Cheers

surely s-ata raid 0 is faster than 2 s-ata hdds in jbod.. however I wouldn't recommend setting up a raid array.. just lost all my data cos win xp couldn't recognize my raid array in reinstall, not even with the latest driver disk
anyways the most efficient way to boost up performance.. buy faster hardware shutting up services doesn't effect systen performance that much..
