It seems that everyone prefers Vinyl for DJing. But what truly is the advantage? Other than scratching (which many don't do anyway) i can't see the point for Vinyl. Clue me in.

well, i asked my friend that once.
he said that Vinyls are for more fat, acoustic, bassy sound, whereas cd's have a clearer, sharper sound. Vinyls are good for nights, and CD's are 4 mornings, after ppl's ears have been fucked up all over, they need something they can hear better. or so he sez ;-)
yes, he's a DJ. a very good one, but not a trance DJ. maybe it varies.

ths sound is more "alive" warm and has more feel to it... besides working with turnables (after u master them) is much more fun then cd's !!

only thing that annoys me about vinyl at the moment is impracticality...
i guess with cd decks, theyre small, you can just ram em in ur car boot and drive off to any party you stage in a forest, or somewhere... with your decks, theyre bigger, heavier, and you have to calibrate the tone arms once you get there... and check nothings come loose.

you really don't want me on this topic...what is this vinil fixation so many djs have? They are more expensive (hardware & media alike), harder to manuver, easily breakable (ever seen a party organizer rushing in his car to get the spare needle 2.5 minutes before opening?) and MUCH MUCH harder to opperate, with the same amount of accuracy you can get from any CDJ (even the Dennon).
If you enjoy making a martyr outa yerselves, go ahead lads, but I'll stick to my comfy CD case.

Yeah i agree with Auspexx Fuck vinyl, nothing is on the damn thing. I wana play my favorite music, not flex for chicks.
This way i won't have to fight with other djs over the few vinyls that are actually available. Everything is on CD.

Check out Vestax CDX-35 ... How can you resist?

vinyl feels better. CDs are cheap and interchangeable.

any comic collectors out there? you might also ask why first editions are worth the money but the trade paperbacks aren't worth shit.

hm... i was wondering why people use vinyl. now i get it... nobody knows why... were all conditioned to think that vinyl "feels better". So when someone asks Why Vinyl... everyone gives some bullshit answer defending their investment. I think vinyl is just the traditional format. Probably relates back in the days of hip-hop, scratching was the coolest thing ever... so they say... "your not a real DJ till you scratch" which is true for Hip-Hop. Scatching Psy-trance... please don't.
Before that CD's never existed... Tapes did, but tapes are a bitch to que.
CD's are a pretty recent format.. Since 88 or so... nobody has had the balls to tell the club owners he is going to use CDs. Because the Club owner won't buy a DJ using CDs. WHY? because the club owner is a old fartknocker and old fartknockers are conservative as hell. Why does he have to be old? Because young people got no money. The only thing we do have is a OPEN MIND, were supposed to. Especially 604 Trancers.

"A conservative young person has no heart...
and a liberal middle/old-aged has no brain"
     -said buy some dude.

OK OK....
sometimes hard house is alright, but personnally i think modern hard house, all this fast stuff (which lets face it, aint really house,) isnt ac tually that hard, just fast and repetitive.
bring back the good old days of poewrfull tribal house, with full vocals, and dirty basslines, a bit of musicality.

and trey, no disrespect or anything...

but saying that you cant scratch in psy-trance is very narrowminded..
without people trying new things, music will never evolve. you cant just lay down the rules

thats why i hate hard house, no experimentation, no evolution, people sytick by the rules and lpay it safe
