why kicks need a compression?
when i used to put a compresson in FLP, that was only to increase the volume..
what else does it do?
anything else needs compressors?

a compression gives your noise a different characteristic.
play with attack-/releasetime and the rate.
...and for shure it s an easy variant to give more volume on your track.
but you ve read the post from yesterday i think, so ppl don t agree with eachother about compression...

make it your motto day and night.
experiment,
and it will lead you to the light.
the apple on the top of the tree
is never too high to achieve,
so take an example from eve...
experiment ! |

compression is a powerful tool to get the most out of each sound. When you don't want to overcrowd certain frequencies but they just don't have enough pressence, you EQ the channel and then compress it, voila - instant control over what frequencies the sound has AND their volume.
Very handy for controling the sound and keeping it clear.

Kaz, by compressing you reduce the volume gain caused by the EQ?

compression is specially for the mixing very important, because every single compressed element will be stay more powerfull in the frequencemix without big volume-jumps. remember that compression simply reduces the volumepeaks and is able to flat down an element into a constant and bundled stream of sound.
acts like spirallianz (spiritzone rec.) for example do a lot of compression for their mix, specially for their well-known percussion-grooves.
compression is just a feeling of sound-fusion in ur mix - try to compress delayd samples and lines for example. |

in my production process one of the most important
things to compress it's the bassdrum and bassline ,
i like to compress each one of them seperetely
and after that compress them both in a group .
That way i can get most power out of them .
Proper use of compression can give good "punch"
to the bass and drum or drum and bass .
EZ ,
Peace . |

actually compression it's a small part of dynamic
processing buzinezz.
There are limiters, side-chain compressors, gates,
expanders, companders and a lot of tools to
shape yo sound's volume envelope .
They all used to correct/control signal levels .
for example compression ratio above like 10:1
considered to limit signals rather compress them .
so it's always good to use the proper tool to control
yo levels , and it's not about mastering only . |
