well, ever-min, i'm not... I like my parties to be themed, i want to know what i'm going to. If i want a dark party, i want dark music, and nothing else. There is enough variation in dark to make an entire party too, there's slower scary dark, you have the derango and bodhisattva style of forest music which fits perfectly on dark parties, u have the noise poison high octane version of dark, etc... Don't see why i would have to listen to progressive or full-on at a dark party, i would just be sitting on the side until the dark acts come up... although i sometimes like full-on, but then i will go to a full-on party, and i wouldn't want dark music to be played there... |

No, I agree Ganjagil. Why must each party be inside a box? Why cant more parties (like it used to be) be a full story. A full journey. A full adventure. A full experience with different type of music for different hours of the day/night? .. I would like to attend a nice fest this happend. I love night music, I love Morning Goa. Why not enjoy both worlds since we'r living inside a 24 hour bubble?

Probably the reason as to why you find so many ravers starting their own home studios to produce Dark Psychedelic music is caz they have had it with the fluff.

then why do they listen to the fluff in the first place?! If they don't like it, why not listen to techno or industrial or hardcore or breakcore or DnB?... I think that most people who are now into dark liked the fluff, but feel that dark is better, simply better, nothing else...
to get back on topic... I like a story too, it's not because i don't want to hear full-on on a dark party that i don't want a story... There is more then enough dark out there to make 4-5 different sets with a completely different feel... From deep-gloomy (ex.: para halu - mega jesus of evil) to aggressive-happy (ex.: cosmo - scott on cofee). From absolute mayhem (ex.: derango - secret surroundings) to near minimalism (ex.: fungus funk - geona).
I don't mind if the very last or very first set is some happy morning old-skool, but it still has to fit in the party (so not with astral projection or infected mushroom, but with battle of the future buddha's (earlier work), alienated, mindfield, koxbox,... the madder, messier form of old-skool).
i don't mind either if the first set is a progressive set, but also, it has to be a little madder and faster then the usual progressive or the contrast with the next act will be too big...
full-on and dark just don't mix imho... Unless u use multiple rooms/podia... |

if u wanna catch good dark stuff europe is ur only adress believe me and not even the east !!
ive been catching aloot of dark music lately in germany which i realy like...and the dark lables over here just dont stop working !

Again: 95% of all (so called) dark Full-On is really bad. And yes, dark full-on is easy to make. Get a rolling baseline, some sounds here and there (with no deeper thought) and Vollā! You got your self a killargh dark track. |

its all a process id say, imo it all develops into wut shoould be a blast.... yea start with progr or sum good minimal... start engines or w/e but wen the time comes and its really really the darkest hours later on.. for sure its time for sum brain-scattering, eye twisting, mind rapin hard a$$ dark.......at first contact with the sun thou.. i wanna see smiles on ppls faces, the good vibes flowing with sum good morning . ::::. d! -_- !b |

I aggree! There are so much different darkpsy that playing anything else than that because of "lack of appropriate music" would be stupid.
And, why are so many dj's so afraid of playing old tracks? I dont care if the track is old, as long as its good... and there is so much good "old" music out there, so why stick with only the new stuff...:S |

Oh my...how many times does this poor dead horse need to be kicked?! Every style has it's time and place for a well rounded party. There's little need to discuss whether 'dark' is easy to produce or not...it's about expression and experimentation, like anything else...if the concern is focused on technical skill in leu of soul...part of the equation is missed. As far as older tracks being played...from my own experience, old tracks always get the floor filled. Like this whole discussion...there's a time and place. Things don't always have to be 'fresh' or this way OR that way...rather this way AND that way.
But of coarse, opinions are like **sholes, aren't they? ;-)
