nice hacks
note: to play radiohead song 10 hard disks were used. at a time they were 400$... so 4000 is not so "little"

seriously though,

There are several subjective reasons to buy hardware
subjective:
1. it is more fun to touch misc. knobs, instead of 1 controller
2. hardware "just feels better"
3. hardware "has a better sound"
4. hardware is "more reliable"
objective:
1. if your computer's power supply goes down (crash) - your all live mix goes down, but if only one synth burns, the rest plays up, and you can some how get out "alive" from such a live set.

2. you support hardware vendor, so the vendor makes a better hardware

3. in live sets some how hardware mixers, synths and effects perform more stably than computers, at least Windows ... it's just statistics.

But, you're right: today anybody can have a Pulsar/Kyma system, or UAD-1 or some other DSP thingie, and to have it all in 1 PC/Mac
Today's computers are Monsters of processing.

If you start to use hardware you will never go back to software that's for sure! Juicy sounds too much...           Boom :)

funny, for me this goes for software instead of hardware.

i dont remember the name of the guy but some writer said once: ask people whats the meaning of life? and they will tell you the history of their life. oops, no intention to start another hard vs soft topic.
