one major problem is that you need freedom to get good parties.. and that freedom don't exist anymore in many place... |

parties became unbalanced.
some years ago, in almost all line ups there was space for the entire psytrance spectrum music. from the darker sounds to the more melodic.
but then people started focusing only in one subgenre. lineups filled with people that play exactly the same kind of sound.
to me, the most darker and deeper sounds maybe too much if there's no variation.. most people can not understand it. and they don't try.
and the people that go to the big festivals do not feel attracted to this kind of vibe.....
it depends on the places. things are not equal in all countries.

so much good things have been said in this thread (and the other one over in the trance section) that i can only thank LOUD for the video, again.
i do agree with disco: search for what you want and you will still find it, for good.
its not like in the old days, where releases were limited in numbers, people had to be rich to have a studio and the shit was hot and new. maybe new people have taken over what was a freak scene with private partys on lsd and have transformed it into a more rave oriented scene with different set of minds. that happens to all edm music styles. differentiation into subgenres and loss of coherence across the "scene".
deal with it and find your way. the good stuff for you is out there and you can find it. just look for it!

one day psytrance will be totally dead and people won t stop getting in trance...they do since way before psytrance..since always... the music style don t really matter it s all about good vibes, the people the nature ,freedom, love ,psychedelic experience ect..
psytrance dead or not is not really a problem..for gettng these enjoyments you get in a psy parties..humans get these since way before electronic music existed..there is nothing new |

psytrance is not dead.
the scene just feels overwhelmed with the popularity of the commercial genres. and even inside the scene.
there's plenty of diferences and division..
some people are playing in the A league, while others are playing the B or C or D....
dead or not dead, personally I start feeling sad when I go away from it. but then I feel energized and happy when I listen and play my favorite psy tunes. |

klippel - yes. Definitely its out there to be found. Just not at the parties. No doubt there is amazing stuff being made. Its just impossible to get to it without wading through tons of crap.
It would be really nice if music could be rated on different dimensions, such as harmonics, dynamics, contrast, composition integrity, atmosphere... etc.
Merely for the purpose that people who like atmosphere can avoid what hasn't got any. People who don't like monotony, lack of contrast, poor composition integrity can see at a glance "Holy crap this is some really amateur shit. peuk on it" Save some basic assumptions of how bad the whole scene is as opposed to 99% of it. |

i agree bukboy, parties that play good music all around or even most of the time are hard to find these days.. i also find this really annoying.
i have turned to finding smaller events or going abroad to find better music (being switzerland coming from germany)..
thats life innit? fortunately i am older now and have a wife and kid, so not going out so much would be my reality anyway ;-)

That's the thing, I played Hai In Den Mai in Germany in May. 4000 people, packed floor. Was a blast, I played on Sunday, flew back to Athens the same day, went to sleep and then the next night, played a 4 hour set in a private party, in an old big house in the centre of Athens with 20 friends and 2k of sound in a large living room, on el cid and had an even deeper experience...that is the beauty of psy-trance. 20 people in a private party, can be a deeper experience, than 4000 in a forest.

I did not have to "perform" either. As soon as I would mix the next track in and cue the one after, I would run around the DJ booth and join the dancers in the dancefloor...then about 32 bars before the current track would finish, I would run back to the DJ booth, mix the next track, cue the one after...and repeat...
Good times

usually the best parties are those where people get little or no profit at all.
people share the expenses to have a good time.
but play big, for many people.. is always a dream-.
