Some people prefers Reasson and some other Cubase. For me reasson is less powerfull than cubase and not such a good sound.           Trance Sound As A Medium Towards Mystical Experience...

Reason is a very good software. It's very symple to use, very stable, and you dont need a very powerful comp for it. Vst are important in that it would be more flexible but it would not be that stable. The problem with reason is that it doesnt have ability to talk to hardware syths throught midi. A major problem. Fruityloops i wouldnt suggest anyone to use it because its very unstable and when it crashes you can loose your whole project easy. Plus it has one of the most horrible memmory leaks. (that is why it crashes)           .-= We are searching for something that is already found us =-.

LOL, what a bullshit.

Fruity is very stable. Never got problems with it. Only got problems with shitty vsts.            Signature

i first want to say that reason is not limiting as someone said here before , and i'm talking about sound varitions. there is an endless options mate the only limitation is your imagination. but i do agree on the poor vst/plug-in support.
but i think we all miss the point here, this is what so spacial in reason and this is unique idea.

now DJ MEGAN, if i were you i would defntly work with reason and cubase , there is a simple soulotion name rewire.use it.

and buy a massive computer to handle the heavy work.           <One learns people through the heart, not the eyes or the intellect>

I love reason. After having switched to Cubase i miss alot of the features that make reason so special. Please take into account that i haven't used reason 3, so maybe some of the things i'll mention have been changed (although i doubt it).

Pros:

Easy to learn
Easy to use
The ability to connect the synths/effects/mixers however you like
Very gentle to your CPU

Cons:

No VST support
No audio recording
Very limited possibilities for working with .wav
Genereally speaking quite poor sound quality from the synths and effects

I would recommend reason for beginners, who have only very limited experience in music production. For someone who studies music production i would definitely recoomend cubase (or similar), even for trance.

Reason was originally developed to be a live soft synth, but has been use by some huge artists like Prodigy to produce albums.
I don’t think it was every intended to be used for final production and mastering.

My best advice is to get hold of a demo version of Cubase and start to learn it, Its way more powerful than reason and best of all its fully compatible with reason.

The new Reason 3 has some nice added features for final production but still doesn’t have the versatility and control you need to tweak our sounds perfectly.

Using cubase was a big step up for me and I can defiantly hear the difference!

Try it out and see for yourself!

Thanx for the info guys. Well so far, I've been learning pro tools, logic and reason on a Mac at school. I have cubase SX on my PC at home, and for the last year and a half have not been able to figure it out. I REALLY like logic! My instructors suggest to me to use Reason with Logic. Has anyone tried this or have something to say about it?
(Keep in mind that no one in my school or any of the instructors even know what psychedelic trance is).

No VST support isn't bad, It's actually good for me. You want VST, go head and use Cubase or any other VST host. I don't have to mess with installing / learning tons of VST, each one has it's bugs and limitations.

so u are lazy nothing more
it works gr8 so 3-4 vst have bug once in a while.. nothing to exite..

Reason is closed for a good reasons
1. As a whole the program is very stable, because everything is tested for you (no VST remember).

fruity , cubase , logic , pro tools ,orion all stable also...

2. you can connect the synth in ways you can only dream of in the VST world. try to take lfo from one VSTi to another.

realy?! i have nordlead how i apply its lfo on subtracktor?? hehe i guess not!
and how i record the nordlead?
and beside i can draw lfo to each knob with lfo tool (fruity)

3. You learn it as you go. you can start with simple stuff and move to advanced things. there is no way you could do that with Logic without reading the manual first or have someone teach you.

like evry other program

so i guess reason as rewire to any vst host is ok..

Hi DJ.Megan. If you are in audio school, I am sure you have a good ear's taste of: first, SOUND QUALITY. so you know the very different between 16bit(reason) sound and 24(cubase) or logic (32 in operation & 24 in recording). In our studio we still use/slave reason sometimes/a little with Logic7. We use it as a far away background sound and half or quarter appearance sound and we destroy it with logic AUs, the result is, super nice. I always like access (I don't mean virus) in any case. I would love to hook my microwave xt & my sherman filterfilterbank 2 or other sound generator hardwares via midi for production or for live and I cannot do that in Reason alone (forgive me if I am lack of reason's capability in this matter). I also would like to stretch and reverse the recorded samples or do some groove (chop chop chop) or arpeggiator setting that I also cannot do in Reason. Logic is definitely deep and flexible. If you don't mind to get knocked with the buck$ in the beginning, it will be a good investment for future audiophile reference. Its a huge studio in 2.5x1/2 inch usb-dongle. And get ready to blow their (all of the students in your schoolI) mind. I am sure cubase also will do a nice job for psytrance. Again its all about taste, but if you think the sound quality is a matter, forget reason as a main sequencer. Even you are the beginner like me but I am sure your quality taste is PRO.

hello freaks
so , we ever use reason for made sounds and i think the quality not depend of the software(reason in thismoment) , depend how u use it ...
some sounds from reason or fruity loops are very good if u see when this is good
i think the main problem is who is made the sound not the software
hehehehe
if u have one good "feeling" u know how to use the sounds
but u need use some others hosts for mixing
just my opnion
if somebody dont agree....
