Hi Megan!
In my oppinion you should use any program you like.
Reason is one of many powerfull synths out there, but if you don't know how to use it you won't create ANY good music. Or you can use a week synth an create the next generation of trance. I think you should use the prog that you most are alike with, one that you can actually create the sound you are thinking of.
Reason is a very complete synth and once you understand the basics the rest comes easy. Well, if you don't have any idea how it works, I advise you to start off with Fruityloops, cause it's basic, easy and and gives you the possibilities to learn about synths. Just my oppinion. Take care good luck

Reason has it's uses. It's ok for making trance tunes. You'll be limited in the sound pallette and you won't be able to record any audio, but you could still knock out tunes.
As psypox suggested, Cubase is better, but having used a Virus B, I wouldn't use a Virus again, epsecially for psy-trance as the Virus sound is beaten to death.           Me>You

Reason is very good for learning the basics.

The FX are simple (you don't waste time tweeking extra knobs) and the cable work makes you being a modular animal. That standalone idea saves you bunch of time (learning new vst every month).

Non-sense. It is a very powerfull synth that can make loads of amazing sounds. If you couldn't get anything new out of it, then that was your limitation. Whats next? No more kicks because kicks have been done to death?

Thin oscillators, the ring modulation is shit, the filter was shit (especially with high resonance settings), the ADSRs were not as snappy as other much more cheaper synths, the distortion was complete crap and it had that awful plastik tone that you could not get rid off no matter how you programmed it.
Things were much better when I put the Virus through my modular synths' analog filters, but that is hardly a factory Virus synth after that.
I know what I am talking about mate, I've had a go at quite a few synths over the years.
In order to not sound like a complete analog snob, I do love synths like the DX 7, Wavestation, Nord Leads, Korg Z1... synths that sound digital and are proud of it.
Anyway, it comes down to what kind of sounds you like, if you like plastik, digital sounds, you'll like the Virus.
I just don't like that plastik tone, that's all. I have a Juno 60 doing the Viru's tasks now and I am much happier. I'd also take a Jupiter 6/8, V4 MKS-80 over the Virus anyday.

So you don't like it's sound. So what? Your criticism is a bit ridiculous. You are talking as though your personal taste is the measure for all things. Guess what, it isn't.

I like the Virus alot. It serves well as part of the sound palette I have to choose from.

Temper temper now Under Tow...Where did I say my personal taste is the measure of all things? I said that I wouldn't use the Virus again, not that psypox, or anyone else for that matter shouldn't use the Virus again...

people here said most of the stuff,
i think rewire is the best option, reason alone is very limited especially the eq and the comp. its very hard to get a good mix because of this and your limited to only a couple of synth even though they are great synth, start with cubase or any other good sequencer that supports rewire its maybe more work but it will save you a lot of time
when youl want to improve your production.

No VST support isn't bad, It's actually good for me. You want VST, go head and use Cubase or any other VST host. I don't have to mess with installing / learning tons of VST, each one has it's bugs and limitations. Reason is closed for a good reasons
1. As a whole the program is very stable, because everything is tested for you (no VST remember).
2. you can connect the synth in ways you can only dream of in the VST world. try to take lfo from one VSTi to another.
3. You learn it as you go. you can start with simple stuff and move to advanced things. there is no way you could do that with Logic without reading the manual first or have someone teach you.
