Dear mk47, why are you nagging about these locked and unlocked threads recently?

this question has been itching me as well.

But after some deeper thinking, i have come to the conclusion that there is a major difference in the reason for a topic getting locked when compared to a topic getting deleted... . a mod could explain better.

p.s -why don't you subtly message your favorite mod and request to consider unlocking those topics you are so restless to post in           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

a thread that has a lot of posts is unlikely to be deleted; when it's a good thread that turns into fighting it's getting locked.

personally i only delete whole threads if the opening thread clashes with the guidelines. for instance, rassistic, sexistic motivation, personal insults, threats etc., illegal music trading. i guess that applies on most of the mods here.

as FD said: if there's anything particularly bugging you - pm mod.

i just don't see the point of locked threads still remaining in view .. that means you want people to read .. if people read .. then they might want to post their view , opinion whatever .. then u feel like a convict ..and view mods as evil jail wardens doing this .. lol .. so .. please delete all locked threads .. or unlock them after deleting offensive posts etc ..

True. However, those locked thread teasers act as a message to other users who might have thought of opening a similar thread. The mod always posts a reason for locking the thread on that thread itself. By deleting it off completely no user that has not viewed or posted on the deleted thread would ever know the thread existed, and hence arises the possibility of such a user opening a similar thread. Now, these threads also pull up in the searches which also act as a prevention from users opening up another thread, while they use the search. and also I feel locking threads is a great way of showing the users the powers of moderation, and an easy way of bringing out the desired discipline in a forum/section or a user.
I personally hate it when my threads are locked, but then I haven't found too many occasions when they were locked for reasons i would oppose or argue for.

Fd, this may be the case, but this logic doesnt really make too much sense to me.

I personally like reading through some of the locked threads, cuz some of them had some classic battles and funny moments.            "On the path of spirituality, one ventures to vanquish one’s own faults rather than to judge others"

and that is the reason why they are locked, not deleted! there are lots of locked interesting topics, topics that have been proven to end in fight when they're open, but that does not mean that they were not interesting in the first place!           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

okay.. I'm not a mod, and hence not the one to really put sense into locked topics and the reasons of. Well, I'm only giving my ideas on the topic. Again, the thread may have been locked because it went way offtopic or was sensitive to political, religious, discussions that were not ideally allowed on a trance forum. but it all serves the same purpose - moderation! You said you liek to read interesting topics?
http://forum.isratrance.com/homophobia-in-the-psy-scene/page29/
read through the thread and then the last post from the mod. A perfect example of why the thread got locked, because the users couldn't resist the arguments on the subject and the thread wasn't really going anywhere really, but one of the few threads thats change my stand on a subject, or changed me!

certainly there is, but imo.. sometimes, infact most of the times people dont have the time or initiative to read through the guidelines, use the search or even the faq - the only reason someone may go to the faq'a will be to post a smiley and then stumble upon some useful information that might help mods. The fact that a thread is locked, is proof of the powers of a mod, the fact that a user/s MUST at all times respect the guidelines of a forum, & the fear of moderation must prevent a user from misbehaviour. Think about it. here's a thread locked for obvious reasons
http://forum.isratrance.com/doing-things-the-danceflloor/
and another one..
http://forum.isratrance.com/doing-things-the-danceflloor-that-you-hate/

You think the faq's would've prevented these?
