that the system works people specializing in one task, to be very good at that task as robots, this system has priorities, make money, generate technology, stealing oil and be opportunistic, although people are very good at what they do, are ignorant of the human and artistic things.

How many of them have you actually met?

I can introduce you to whole communities that are not "ignorant of the human and artistic things" (while still "good at what they do", or not).

US has two sides, yeah there is a lot of people who choose thinking like you describe but a whole lot of other people that are very open minded and human.

Its just incredible the quantity of art the US holds and produce, and how its melting pot works.

Must people think US has no culture of their own, those people need to take book on US history.

I will go as far to say that for all the wrong doings of the US goverment and corps, its society has given to the world more.

The same appplies to almost all countries.

About psychedelic culture. There are still plenty of genuine hippies in Oregon (or at least there were when I was there in ‘92): both the original ‘60s cohort and the younger generations. There are plenty of posers too, who just try to impress mainstream folks with their tie-dye shirts and overused Sanskrit vocabulary, but fakes are easy to spot. Oregon State Fair was a lot of fun. It was a cool gathering of all kinds of artists, musicians, craftsmen – both white and Native. Rock stage, tribal drummers, Irish folk music – all kinds of interesting things to see and hear. And the authorities were pretty lax about whatever you decide to smoke or ingest and whatever you want to wear (or not ). Plenty of interesting people there. I am sure it’s still as cool as it was 17 years ago, but I haven’t been there since then. And Oregon’s nature is truly magical! I could talk about it forever but it would be fair to yield to locals instead.

Driving across the country is a great idea. You’ll need at least 3 people if you want to travel stress-free, because the whole middle third of the continent is very sleep inducing. So, you’ll have to drive in 6-8 hour shifts and sleep the rest of the day between Illinois and Utah. Coast-to-Chicago (or at least to Cleveland) and on the other side Coast-to-canyons (or at least to Salt Lake City) is where you’d want to keep your eyes open for sure.

Good luck with your trip.

great:)
thanks for the impression and hints:)!

for me it is very interesting to hear any hints about psychedelic people over there.
btw did anyone attend this :
http://www.horizonsnyc.org/site/speakers/

to the contrary of the wide spread opinion among europeans, new york seems to be really psychedelic somehow. just take the temple of sacred mirrors and the psychedelic conferences and you get the glimpse. no idea if there is any interraction between the psychedelic playground and the trance culture, this is what i wanted to hear most...

two of my best friends ever ( girls) live in the states - one in new york and one in chicago. the journey we want to plan will be by van, starting from new york, but it would be great if it is possible to take a van from a car sharing firm and leave it on the on the east coast at the end...my friends are both somehow very stable on the ground, if this is the right expression to describe people with very serious well paid jobs who have not so much free time for holidays..but they are very interested to see burning man and their husbands are both very psychedelically minded so our journey will definiteyl take place one day. just a matter of time and i cant wait. ) but it will be great. i watched some movies about burning man and some more about wild hippie journeys by van in the states and i am facisinated completely. it will happen early or later. its just one of the things that i am sure will happen, just wait a few more months. ...

I think psytrance, and all related sub genres, will be huge in the future in U.S, also in other countries. This is just the beginning , the seed

I sincerely hope that you’re wrong here. Wouldn’t want to hear psytrance on a Top-40 radio for sure. Haven’t you noticed how everything degenerates once it becomes popular? Well, except for Madonna maybe. And Celentano. And Pugacheva. Maybe half a dozen of others worldwide.

Also, once it’s an industry, music gets out of the hands of producers (as in people in front of their DAWs) and into the hands of those other producers (as in label businessmen). Hence, the proliferation of cloned hits. If you don’t believe me, just witness a decade of the “alternative rock” abomination.

Still 90's alternative rock gave us some pretty solid albums.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

I think what will help too is you don't have to be such a freak to play soccer. Figure if you are 5'10 you have little chance of playing college basketball.
American Football gets more crazy every year with huge and fast guys. I know the most recruited high school kid this year is 6'6" 250lbs of muscle and would have been the fastest kid on my high school team by far..
At least in soccer you can make up for that kind of thing in skill.           http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

The scene should only get bigger if the psychedelic trance experience remained intact. If this didn't happen, a bigger scene would mean shit.

Instead of growing the scene, focus should remain on quality of the experience for those participating. The numbers will come if it's to be that way. Otherwise, pay no mind and keep with your dance.

I get your point, and to some degree i agree, but i dont see why an expanding of a music culture necessarily has to been negative.

I think that what many may fear is that the "root", or core, in psytrance will fade away, that the psychedelic and deep mind exploring part will be replaced by some mainstream souless plastic mtv stuff.

We have all seen our favorite artist`s in all sorts of genre`s switch style and try to get more money and fame and sound more "mainstream",like they are trying to please the audience instead of creating something from themselfes that are "real" and truly touches people.

I see it more like it just get widens,it`s like a colour filling more parts of the spectrum.Just look at the progressive scene, that in my way of experiencing it,has gotten psytrance and psy elements closer to the club scene, the "club" scene which means places were electronic music are being played in citites all over the world, visited by usual people everywere. Not like psy happenings when people who are there often already are into that kind of music.

This means that more people gets in contact with this kind of sounds.

Personally i like that more people are able to hear this kind of music, since i know how much it has meant and means to me,i like to see other people be able to listen to good electronic music.I like the idea of really huge psy events with mindblowing lasers, decorations etc.

But ,in some ways one can also see it like many really huge events would probably be producers with much mainstream influence.Vocal stuff, people playing guitarr etc, trying to melt into the already existing MTV,radio "scene".

Probably, the "scene" will continue to be divided in terms of different branches from the tree growing more into specific directions. So that if psytrance would be really big it could for an example mean that just one genre would truly "get through",or one special kind of style.

One also has to understand that if a music style gets bigger it often means more "less attached" followers,in other words, not the loyal hardcore fans but more people who likes the style amongst many other styles. So if psy would get really big it would mean that the events etc would be filled with more "city party people" ,usual people with no connection to electronic music, spirituality etc,but people who just are after some fun and party.Yes,this means that those events would not have the "old school spirit" ,but one thing does not have to exclude another. Why not, full of spirit, parties with a very psychedelic approach, some events in between and some events that are a bit more mainstream. One thing those not have to exclude another.

The more complicated ,deep stuff perhaps are to complicated for "usual" people to listen to.Perhaps it is mostly people who already have a good music ear and "music sense" that mostly listens to and understand that.Just like the people who enjoys classic music often have a good music ear.The music may be very deep ,complicated and good but still to hard to "understand" by the big masses.

So something not to complicated yet a bit psychedelic could work.Like a merge with psy elements and already existing more mainstream electronic music styles.

One of the reasons that i think psy will be really big is because of the internet, people getting music from the net,you tube etc.It changes everything,it reaches more ears.People also wants something new, something fresh. And there is more people overall everywere, this means that everything gets bigger.

I think people gets more used to electronic "sounds" at all and the repetive kick drum etc. After a while it becomes more integrated and more "normal".As it is now this is all still very young and therefore it may need some more time before it gets bigger. But some years ahead,i think electronic music at all will be much more common, and also psy and all sorts of electronic styles.

I don't see psy getting more popular in the states than it already is tbh - no matter how much I love psy and feel that it is extremely powerful, the trance dance experience is only appealing to a certain group of people - there is a big difference between going out to the club to have fun dancey time and going out to an outdoor psy festival....at least for me

Electronic music will continue to grow in popularity, though I think it will be (unfortunately) more in the electro/womp/dubstep/glitch hop variety.

Psy needs to and should stay underground. It is perfect in the states right now.

Fometrius,
I don't care how "attached" or "spiritually advanced" the consumers are or will be, how much they know about all things psychedelic or whether they just want to dance and look at a dude with dreads spinning records for them, with no care about who he is or whose music he's playing.

It is the production part that worries me, no the consumption side of it. There always will be people digging up some unknown musicians and listening to their music - the way it works in "unconventional" genres like depressive black metal, for example. Yet, the airwaves will play the latest from Metallica – at best – and that’s what listeners will know as metal. Likewise, I suspect that by the time psy trance gets to commercial radio we will sigh nostalgically about all the producers whose name ends with “-ix” as pure psychedelia of the yesteryear. And Skazi will be giving interviews to wide-eyed journalism majors about how he is the only one keeping psytrance pure. And when you tell a friend that you listen to psy trance, he’ll say: “Oh, you mean like that music on 100.3 FM, WPSY – The Psy Underground!” Yeah, buddy, just like 100.3 FM. Just like every other station in the country was “alternative” in those blasted 90s, now they will all be “underground” and “shamanic” and “mind-expanding” – while playing the trance analogue of Alanis Morissette and Match Box 20. Yes, it can pass for alternative and thought-provoking. May even pass for music. But no, thanks.

The wholesale corruption and destruction of everything good and pure is inevitable. Let’s not speed it up.

Its really hard for me to see that electronic music is getting more popular though...Especially vs 1999/early 2000 when even not living in NYC or LA there was a 10pm-6am rave every single night of the week and raves booked 2 months out for the local scene..
Now there is a dubstep night at a club once a week, the occasional industrial ebm show..nothing even close to the height of "trance"..

I think its kind of delusional to view psy not being as popular because of some advanced spiritual knowledge or more sophisticated music taste..I think its probably much closer to happy hardcore that from the outside, if you are not into that culture most of it seems incredibly goofy.          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

Anyway, what’s the problem here? That one cannot get to a psy party by taking his municipal bus?
I live right in between Chilluminati and the Asheville “psy hub”. About 7 hours each way. Not a big deal. Would’ve visited both places already if not for my total lack of moola.

There are at least as many cars in the US as there are people of driving age. Who needs a psy megachurch next door?
