There is a North American forum here. The threads there are mostly about particular parties and festivals. But there used to be more “social” chats too; they kinda died when Tizzy disappeared (I blame the Brits ). There is a long ongoing thread on Burning Man there too.
About psychedelic culture. There are still plenty of genuine hippies in Oregon (or at least there were when I was there in ‘92): both the original ‘60s cohort and the younger generations. There are plenty of posers too, who just try to impress mainstream folks with their tie-dye shirts and overused Sanskrit vocabulary, but fakes are easy to spot. Oregon State Fair was a lot of fun. It was a cool gathering of all kinds of artists, musicians, craftsmen – both white and Native. Rock stage, tribal drummers, Irish folk music – all kinds of interesting things to see and hear. And the authorities were pretty lax about whatever you decide to smoke or ingest and whatever you want to wear (or not ). Plenty of interesting people there. I am sure it’s still as cool as it was 17 years ago, but I haven’t been there since then. And Oregon’s nature is truly magical! I could talk about it forever but it would be fair to yield to locals instead.
Driving across the country is a great idea. You’ll need at least 3 people if you want to travel stress-free, because the whole middle third of the continent is very sleep inducing. So, you’ll have to drive in 6-8 hour shifts and sleep the rest of the day between Illinois and Utah. Coast-to-Chicago (or at least to Cleveland) and on the other side Coast-to-canyons (or at least to Salt Lake City) is where you’d want to keep your eyes open for sure.
Good luck with your trip.

what happened to the topic?:)
would be nice to keep it running:) i think that there is no other trance forum where there are more freaks from the states than here...
we ( some friends) plan to finally get it to burning man next summer and also try to make a very old dream come true ( travelling with a van through the vast immense wild nature of the states for a month) starting from new york)....and it will be really interesting to keep the topic running.....
another thing that i noticed ( and not only i but also friends of mine) is that even the trance scene might not be big ( in relation to how large are the states) , the psychedelic culture seems to be bigger than anywhere else. no? impressions and opinions?

You should also come down to Mexico, great place for traveling and you can find tons of psy places to visit too.

I blame the jam band scene..there are hippies all over the country but the electronic minded ones are concentrated on the west coast. The jam band scene though is orders of magnitude bigger than anything electronic and thats what most the hippy minded people go towards..
Google image Bonnaroo...it pretty much attracts about 70,000 people a year.

The most important question is, why Football isnt big in U.S.
I think it's all about hype and also americans probably don't like things that it's not their invention! http://www.wellbridal.com |

This world cup was pretty big here. I never watched a game before and watched a ton of matches. We didn't even qualify for the world cup for an entire generation practically. Hard to be into it when your team is a joke.
More kids play organized soccer than any other sport here. As long as the US team is decent next world cup, it will be a huge deal.
Outside the world cup though its always going to be tough because the 4 major sports here are always going, plus MMA now year round.
No one cares who invented the sport, just as long as we don't suck at it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat |

It would be unthinkable to have soccer be more popular than football or Basketball in the USA. IN Canada soccer will never replace hockey...

Soccer is going to be the most popular sport in the US after the 2022 world cup, that is very very probably going to take place in the US.
Right now its the more played sport by kids, and its gets bigger and bigger.
When all those kids grow up they are going to watch soccer, which is more fun that American football or baseball anyway.

baby steps. first focus on changing the outdated imperial system. Then perhaps they can start to think about joining the rest of the world activates. thats if they even want to.
