I clearly remember when my then girlfriend( now wife) went to the U.S and a direct quote as a male U.S custom officer did a body search (with clothes on of course, as she is in a wheelchair and can;t go through metal detector):

"For an asian cripple you're pretty hot!"

I mean for fucks sake, she has cerebral palsy sure but you don't need to say that shit to her while doing a search in customs!

I Anyway America has some quality metal bands, psy music and N.I.N... and others I met there n on travels seem cool enough... might go back when i have kids...          I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

The customs jerk could lose his job quite easily if your wife made a big deal about it. He made 3 "mistakes" in one short sentence - either he is a complete idiot or a bigotted f..k. He does not belong there in either case.

Anyway, assholes exist everywhere. It's a big country; I am sure you can find people of all kinds here. I am glad you realized that we are not all Dick Cheny's clones.

@ascension, I understand that you prefer having a small scene in the midwest and you feel that it needs to be conserved, but I feel that you guys are being a bit over protective! I remember chilluminati cancelling a party in chicago because some other crew was organizing a party 3 weeks after in Iowa!

When did that party cancellation happen? We actually did an indoor last year a week before an iowa party (that venue actually burned down so no more shows there). That one was in central IL, and there's only about 1 place in the chicago burbs that allows psy parties (places downtown just want large attendance and people buying drinks- 2 things that don't happen).

I wouldn't say we're being over protective at all, but it's hard to run a large show with only a couple of people- so we're not exactly shooting for the moon- more so going for sustainability. The scene in minneapolis has blown up over the past 2 years and we'll probably get 550-600 people at sacred earth this year.

The scene is still growing here and a lot of the newer people are becoming more involved, more people are producing and playing live sets, more people are contributing deco and more new people are coming to parties. Overall I'd say we're going in the right direction and keeping a good eye on not going beyond our means.

I was checking Sacred Earth line up and preparations, looks pretty decent!
I was talking to my husband about this specific topic, and he agrees with you Ascension, he is an IL boy and keeps on telling me not to take San Fran as a reference in anything.
actually I do miss Chicago a lot

Me too. It’s my most favorite place in the whole US (horrible weather through most of the year notwithstanding). I make a point of visiting it 1-2 times a year. It’s always like a breath of fresh air. And a 6-hour drive through corn fields is a meditative retreat of its own.

I can hear it too. Something between psybient and old-school darkpsy – along the lines of Déjà Vu Fabrique maybe. “There is a great disturbance in The Force...”

My wife's dad lives in Joliet so I've been out to Chicago a few times. Summer is beautiful there, sipping Old Style watching the Cubs lose at Wrigley is always a great time. Was there for Christmas last year and enjoyed it then too.

But, for best places in the country (besides Hawaii) I have to say New Orleans hands down.

The weather there is awesome in April-May and in September-October. Summers are too hot (about ~100 people die every year in a heat wave). Winters are nice (in a North Coast way at least) - unless you are in downtown itself. They don't call it Windy City for nothing. Anyway, during those times the city more than compensates for the weather, so it's a win all year around.

I actually start getting very curious about Ashville, NC. Seems like 150% of its population are psy producers. And if they sound anything like Georgians - I'd move there just to hear them speak. (Yeah, I am one of those strange people who actually like the Southern accent )

I don't go to parties much these days, unless it's a particular artist or DJ that draws me. Kri came to SF not too long ago and I came out to hear him. Wasn't disappointed. NC has something special going on.

There was a group of people from San Francisco that moved to Ashville and got it all going I think. Does the name "Mistress Of Evil" say something to you?           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I know most of those Mistresses, I think. Who moved out there?
But I think 'it' was there before then. Cos the east coast has some good artists. onommon's first album is a psytrance classic, in my opinion. Great contribution.
And I know Kri has been paving a way like a shaman, from way back. Old school spiritual style. I gave his mix "Spiritual Healing" to a good friend and fellow music lover with long hair who I felt could use some spiritual healing. Being a rock guy, I was stoked to see that he took to his medicine very well and with great joy and amazement and carried it on into his life (but never had any interest in going to a party). Kri is a shaman from those forests, I'm pretty sure.

what happened to the topic?:)
would be nice to keep it running:) i think that there is no other trance forum where there are more freaks from the states than here...

we ( some friends) plan to finally get it to burning man next summer and also try to make a very old dream come true ( travelling with a van through the vast immense wild nature of the states for a month) starting from new york)....and it will be really interesting to keep the topic running.....

another thing that i noticed ( and not only i but also friends of mine) is that even the trance scene might not be big ( in relation to how large are the states) , the psychedelic culture seems to be bigger than anywhere else. no? impressions and opinions?
