So basically what Maine Coon is pointing out with "science", don't do fast music with low bass it sounds terrible and there is no technology or any other undefined forces that will change this fact in the forseeable future. Everyone drop down to 128bpm and do the dancefloor a favour.

^
But if we lengthen bass notes to 1/8 instead of 1/16 - then we can go up all the way to 256 BPM, right?
Funny stuff indeed.
Science aside, I think I am way too old to dance for hours to anything faster than 140.

Thanks for the 30% suggestion, by the way.
I am trying to do a trance remix of a jazzy tune
( www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-hgqMys-Bs ) and it's a big trouble: the original is too free-flowing for trance and my "tightened" mix is just lifeless. I'll give your 30% rule a try.

well, technically: yes!
simple offbass still sounds ok at 200bpm, but i don't know any kind of music at or above 250 that still has discernible bass beside the kick.

Daark ..
The truth exist and wating for you somwhere out there far away over the mountains ..
Keep walking .. When time will come you suddenly find and get the point .
As i have wrote you ones before its can take time but in the end you will understand ,
Its a process and alot of things and elements included in .
Imo when you decide stop running .. You start to feel the music from inside .
You tell me man what sound for you more powerfull , Massive and heavy BUM TA BUM TA or Trrrrrrrrrrrrr . ??? .
I always said theres two kind of Dark styles theres the Toy Dark (The Trrrrrrrrrrrr) And the real fat and deep .
Could read in here some very good , Serious , Important and relevant post's of few pro peoples who understand
and could feel that point (And this is can come only after and from many years of experience) .
High speed music 99.9% is running to no where ..
In 136-148 you can let the music control of you , To integrate in instead running all party after the 'music' .
There is kind of mathematics we have need in our tunes for right order and stability but i think thats have to be
physics too to creat those Real Illusion of an high and down and what between and this space can be done and
work only under the 148 .
You can creat 142 super speedy track , Deep bass and kik + Fast hh loops (If you know how to do it - Belive me
the down tempo not gonna bother you at all and you will dance like a crazy) More drums , TamTams , Africans ,
Bongo's and those will bring and makes the deferent) .
So .. if you working right you will get that bonus .. And if not (Yet) I hope and wish for you 1 day it will happen ..

you can easy make a test, play that terrible Goa Gill set in silly high tempo with sounds from a toy-store or put on some groovy stuff in allegro or assai with heavy rhythm and interesting melodies and sounds and see what makes the dance floor "Really" move

tempo != pace
You can make a 130 bpm track feel fast or an 150bpm track feel slow. Its not all about the tempo itself.

My recommendation to you, Daark, is to not ever think about which BPM you should write at, and just write whatever song you feel! Hum it to yourself first, tap it out on your knee, whistle it while you make a piece of sourdough toast with little garlic slices and St. Andre cheese on it and then "BeeooOoaaww" out the bassline while you layer avocado and tomato over the cheese! Be careful though! melty cheese is slippery business so you'll have to hold the tomato slices on top with your thumb while you eat or else risk dropping them on the floor... don't forget the salt and pepper!
haters just love to hate on fast music, but I still had fun writing this, so I can't say it matters too much to me. Also, that sandwich rocked my morning so hard!

i just can't believe in those statements that says that lower bpm has more deepness and space ...heart rate connection?
what the hell
Hehe... what the hell?
Were it is just about TIME = SPACE
128bpm = .468 ms per quarter = .117 ms per step
145bpm = .413 ms per quarter = .103 ms per step
160bpm = .375 ms per quarter = .093 ms per step
180bpm = .333 ms per quarter = .083 ms per step
Want more science than numbers?
The beat is basically a pulse, like heartbeat. Most forms of vibration have an effect on the human being, psychologically, physically or emotionally. So don't find it strange to link BPM with heartbeat, im guessing the bpm measure came first for heart rate than for music itself.
And good luck trying to fit a deep and spaced kick'n'bass in a .333 quarter measure.
Viva Goa Gil...
lulz
32hz = 31.25ms per cycle
that is about ten cycles aproximately in 180bpm

sorry for double post it automaticly posts after timeout two times
and from experience playing sets at low bpm is just not working for people who want to go fast dude so plz i talk from personal experience it is just kills sometimes like a slow machine pushing you downnnnnn for mind yes but not everybody can connect to this dude same for minimal people are boreddd and want you to lift em up at least to 145+ and it is truly depends on crowd of people so you need to have some more tricks in the bag http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers Wierd shit happens :)
