I've been to gaian mind, desiderata, orb festival on the east coast for 'bigger' psy festivals, and Gemini/Alchemy/Psychedelic Freak Show on the west coast (though they were not as big as the east coast)
as well as a plethora of smaller parties over the past 7 years.
every single time the high BPM stuff comes out...and especially if its sustained at that BPM for a long time...dance floor suffers. Freak show was an excellent example of sustaining the dance floor...it went above 145 for maybe a couple of hours max and then it was back to 145 and the dance floor was ALWAYS packed and had great energy.
Would never go to a festival that focuses on high BPM psy exclusively. I actually like to dance.
Just my 2 cents.
...Can you dance for 8+ hours straight to 150+ psy? I can't, and I'm a 25 year old dude who isn't in bad shape. I'm sure some people can, but on the whole I haven't seen it. If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

and since when , gaian mind, desiderate and orb festival or any crap festival from USA is a festival with dancefloor based only in the dark and fast sounds ?
you really didnt get my exemple...
if u go to a festival WHICH is based on the dark sounds u ll see a dance floor dancin for more than 8 hours straight 150 bpm +..
im not sayin dark s better than full on and and that bullshit discusion, just sayin its pretty ignorant to say music higher than 15o bpm cant be danced for 8 hours hahaha
if something doesnnt apply to u it doesnt mean it doesnt apply to everyone else....
thats one of the foundations of the psytrance imo ....

I didn't say that everywhere in the world there were no examples of people dancing 8+ hours straight to 150+ music, I just said that in my personal experience with psytrance music in the US over the past 7 almost 8 years that was my experience no matter coast I am on or which party I am at. This may have changed if I went to say, worldbridge or something (as I hear that's pretty fast the whole time, but I haven't been so I wouldn't feel comfortable stating that)
That is all, nothing more, nothing less. How can I speak of things which I do not have personal experience with?
Crap festival? Have you been to any of those festivals, or are you just talking out of your ass and being a hypocrite by doing the same thing you (falsely) accuse me of doing?

lol...just because I have stated that I have seen fast music destroy dance floors on a consistent basic does not mean that I do not appreciate music in all tempos.
good music is good music regardless of its speed - (almost) everything has its place (besides 'horror' psy - that shit can go fuck itself off a cliff as far as I'm concerned) and I'm a big believer in the music being appropriate to the time of day. 2am? Perfect time for some crazy fast nonsense that blows your brain apart.
9am on a beautiful morning? No. Fuck no.
That being said, I'll gladly check it out once I get home. I like to consume new sounds on a regular basis and there's rarely something as satisfying as being demonstrably proven wrong so that your mind is a bit more open

umm...dude? ajja is not fast. If I'm not mistaken he rarely if ever goes above 150. I would dance to ajja all effin day
150 is not much of a difference from 145 all things being relative. 160-180 is more in the range of what I'm referring to when I mention unsustainable dance speeds (again - this is only my direct observation/opinion, not indisputable fact) If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

slow is better for some people cause they have enough time to understand whats going on
usually its also coming with less violent type of sounds so its simply more easy listening
and the sound factor.. make Kbbb line on 150 and start drop down.. around 138 its getting fatter aint it?
oh and the groove thing.. shuffle sounds better on 130 then on 140 and sure on 150 its allready loosing all the nice feeling of groove.
just some reasons.. i do all from 120 to 150 every day different mood

Back in the day – a couple of lifetimes ago – we danced to 120 BPM and it didn’t feel slow. The music was as dumb and gay as “Glee” – but we enjoyed it and danced away through the night. It was called “Eurodisco” back then. Now they made it more blippy and pretentious and renamed it into “progressive”. And now half of the world keeps bitching about how slow it is (although I am yet to see a 120 BPM "progressive" track).
My point is: “progressive” seems slow because everything else inched up in tempo and left it behind. Back in the 80’s, 120 BPM was a disco norm. If you wanted anything faster, you’d have to resurrect American 144 BPM tunes. Yeah, I know there was plenty of fast-paced music in the 80’s. But Sex Pistols and Iron Maiden rarely made it under a disco ball.
As for high-paced festivals: how is it going to prove or even demonstrate anything. I’ve seen massive marathons too. Thousands of people pushing those 40 km. When you see this, it gives you an illusion that the whole Earth is into this masochistic activity. But is it really?

Like someones mentioned. slower tracks means more to "hear" you hear more and that information contains more for you to be impressed with.
But faster track is more danceable to me so i like it fast. although a slower track can be more listenable

too fast is to fast for me... maybe 150 and above (but for years i made goa from 150 to 160 bpm....)but for today kbbb i find it too fast. but it s not only the tempo ,the sound used and their timing , midi pattern have a lot to do with the fast/slow feel of a track |
