in response to calls for diversity in lineups, i must point out that no matter how many "genres" are represented, it all sounds like trance to a person who primarily listens to any other type of music. thump thump thump thump..... I go to trance parties for the environment and get a little bored when 90% of the promoters attention is on the music. Often it seems they feel its not worth it to put together a chill area or round up visual/decorative artists. Personally, I could care less about "headliners" and would choose a comfortable, original environment over a big name any day of the week

I always feel I have to
take a stand
and there's always someone on hand
to hate me for standing there
I always feel I have to open my mouth
and every time I do
I offend someone
somewhere

but what
what if no one's watching
what if when we're dead, we're just dead
what if there's no time to lose
what if there's things we gotta do
things that need to be said

you know I can't apologize
for everything I know
I mean you don't have to agree with me
but once you get me going
you better just let me go
we have to be able to criticize
what we love
say what we have to say
'cause if you're not trying to make something better
as far as I can tell
you're just in the way

I mean what
what if no one's watching
what if when we're dead
we're just dead
what if it's just us down here
what if god is just an idea
someone put in your head

what if no one's watching
what it when we're dead, we're just dead
what if it's just us down here
what if god ain't looking down
what if he's looking up instead

Just to reiterate:

we have to be able to criticize
what we love
say what we have to say
'cause if you're not trying to make something better
as far as I can tell
you're just in the way

From what i've been reading about the rave act, it's been sneaked in sort of right? (i have very poor understanding of American political and legislative system so bare with me)
isn't there someway a citizen can go up to like supreme court or whatever, and say - this is against the constitution, its against the law basically? throw it out!
(works in israel....)
who is protecting the constitution?

Shai, check this out its the RAVE act wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAVE_Act

The law was manly formed to curb the rise in ecstasy and GHB usage.
Basically it makes venue owners and promoters responsible for all that goes on. Also in one part of it, it says that having a "chill room" and selling water and glow toys gives LEO's enough "Findings" to find you responsible for what goes on.

But many people were worried because it goes against the First Amendment and freedom to assemble.

So yes it is against the constitution but also its been awhile since i have heard of anyone getting in trouble for the RAVE Act. Also I am not sure but I think a good lawyer can get you somewhere with this.

Its basically reasoning for LEO to get through the door and see whats going on at the events, and charge you with heavier crimes.

Really. Ummmm, Israel does not have a constitution, mainly to maintain Jewish/religious rules over civil liberties.

This is one of the reasons I live in the US.

I think bluespectralmonkey brings up a great point here, that locals are often BETTER than the international headliners; and I totally agree with this. We are blessed with some extremely talented local artists, and given some time, I think they could become international artists themselves.

But yeah, this really rings true for me after seeing many internationally acclaimed DJ's and producers who really didn't deliver when it came to their sets. I think Paul Van Dyk is a great example. I have mad respect that this guy as a producer, mainly on his older trance; but each time I've seen him he's really fallen below the line I was expecting. Very few big international artists have truly DELIVERED when I've had the chance to see them.

That said, there are a lot of international artists that I am hurting to see. It just happens (as the forum name implies LOL) that a lot of my favorites hail from good ol' Israel, along with South America, and other various places. Due to our relatively small psy communities here in the States, we are lucky to get the few big headliners that we get, so I usually try to act appreciative of seeing them even if it isn't truly the BEST DJ or live set that I've seen to date. *shrug*

But yeah, local DJ's ftw!
