Aaah figures. The only place without Mc Ds. Come to Iowa instead... 4th of July outdoor... we shall drink Sake and do the Eskimo dance with retired veterans of the Polish mafia.

Iowa, huh? My sis lives in ohio, maybe i could tie in visiting her with a bit of partying in with you psyowa freaks
On a more serious note, I've been dying to move to Nova Scotia. No trance scene there, but at this point i really couldn't care less; just means there's more room for me to influence the people with free psytrance gatherings in the massive amounts of forest they have there. I'm more into ambient/chillout/worldbeat anyway, which i think might have a place in the eclectic halifax music scene. Tough thing is, I need a job before i can immigrate, but it seems like I need to be there to land a job! arghhh!

and Vector_0 - try to travel around the US before making such absolute statements. this country has a lot of amazing stuff to experience and lots of real people to share it with.

You're right, I haven't been everywhere in the united states, and shouldn't make such absolute statements. There's plenty of cool places, and nice people in all areas of the usa, but i'd just rather travel around canada......or antarctica
The idea of spending my vacation time exploring more america is a big turn-off to me. Such a static, abrasive vibe here in my native land.... http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector |

From what I've seen, TRANCE, house, tech, breaks, drum n' bass, and other electronica of other sorts HAS began to take off in the United States. Using television as a good measure of "mainstream" I've noticed a lot of electronica, in particular electro house making its way into the cell phone commercials and whatnot.
You also see a lot of "big time" trance, tech, and house artists making their way into mainstream music publications as well; Paul Van Dyk, Infected Mushroom, Armin Van Buuren, Deadmau5 as examples.
I was at Coachella a couple years ago, and saw Paul Van Dyk, Infected Mushroom, Tiesto, Felix Da Housecat, Benni Benassi, Pendulum, Dj Heather, and David Guetta; all major electronica acts.
So I would say that electronica; trance, house, etc. is making its way into the American mainstream, and going into the future, I see it becoming the dominant music form for the American youth.
Now, with the exception of Infected Mushroom (which I really just consider them their own thing at this point), none of those acts are psytrance, or Israeli trance in anyway. In fact, the only international psy act I see that gets a lot of attention in the United States (other than Infected) is Astrix, and even he has very limited exposure. Simon Posford and Co. also like to play a great deal throughout the United States. But yes, psytrance is still completely underground by most accounts within most of the United States. |

we are all right YAY! basically there is too much space between us, our culture is sabotaging new culture from flourishing, we are raised to think of music as something played by hand with easy to comprihend attributes (why isnt classical popular? its too complex and abstract) alos we are afraid of being labeled ravers and one day finding ourselves with a pacifier in our mouths, and so on and so on,,,
All this amounts to is that we need to keep promoting it on a personal basis dont worry if its not being played on the radio its really nice that most of our homegrown talent is nothing more than your average person who also plays or makes music not many "superstars" come from our scene. Just keep showing up tell your friends and flat out just be proud of the fact that what we are doing is an amazing positive thing dont let the culture force you to hide your other life as if you were a criminal. Lead by example maybe if you cant convince someone to dig the music you can convince them to dig the culture. For most of us we liked the culture of it all before we loved the music. Live your life shining away let people know what you do why you do it and what it means to you. Be proud to be part of what we have going and through spreading positivity to all who you come in contact with maybe drop a plug for the psy community here and there. This way only people who are genuinely interested in the psy community will show up instead of just being tricked into going by a fancy flier and byob policy.

Canada is nice, but you ought to try Western US. New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Washington.. Northern California! lots of beautiful places, lots of cool people, lots of weirdos. And the vibe here is quite different from what you'll encounter further East.
the many road trips i've made out west were some of the best vacations i've ever had.

Hey Now! I am really trying to get the scene going in upstate NY. My 5th Psyparty is this saturday 5-31-08 in Clifton Park NY. They keep getting bigger and better and this is an area where most people never heard of Psytrance.
One thing one has to remember is to NEVER use the T word or the R word (Techno/Rave). That will bring an immediate end to the festivities.
I see a very bright future. Most people I turn on to Psytrance like it. It's refreshing and full of energy and that's what people really want.
I toured with the Dead for 10 years until Jerry died, then did the Alternative scene, the the Jam band scene and that's where I discovered Psytrance at Camp Bisco in 2004.
Now I'm a totally self taught Psytrance DJ with a sound system, enough music to play for days on end and the business savy to get the scene going (although it's not for profit and has cost me a few thousand bucks).
The scene WILL happen. The word just hasn't gotten out yet. Cheers, Rob

Good luck. There used to be a psytrance scene in Rochester a while back, even a weekly Goa and regular trance radio show around 96-99.

As far as the Eastern and Western USA, yes it's a slightly different vibe. It was like that back in the Dead days. In the East there is a little more friction. Why? Who knows? Anyway, Hey Facehead, check out my ruff and tumble flyer - http://www.goatrance.de/goabase/party/flyer/38772
I'm not trying to impress, just get good folks together for a good time. Hope you can play one of my future Psyparties (saw you at Gaian last year, thanks!).
Peace, Love and Psytrance, Rob

there have been some great posts on this topic...
notably the people who mentioned the 2003 Rave act, never using the "t" (techno) or "r" (rave) words when promoting, etc... plus one major thing....
GETTING VENUES.
symbiosis gathering has been trying for the last three years (successfully, to an extent) to build the west coast trance community by bringing top tier international artists and tons of locals for a 4-day campout in the tradition of parties like rainbow serpent and universo parelello, which myself and the other organizers attend. we were on the crew at turkey, boom, rainbow, many times and try year after year to bring the vibe home...
but this year,w e are totally fuct without the ability to find a suitable home for a few thousand people to party in the woods - NO VENUE.
basically we throw a week-long permaculture course before our events to prep the land, and go so far as to do mycoremediation (planting mushrooms to soak up oil) on fields where we park cars. we;re serious about taking care of the land, with a track record to prove it, and no problems with the law in 3 years... but still, we can't find a spot.
so yeah - the people would come, if we could get a spot, a permit, and use mainstream media to advertise....
like the 90's used to be, for those who remember the good ole daze...
