Pffftt.... Well looks like this has just gone a bit too wayy off topic. 
@ Moki, i guess you have to realize since we r indians, and live in India, we prolly have a lil bit more knowledge in all this, because it happens around us all the time. Goin to Kumbh mela once or reading books, does not even come close to day-to-day experience. And dont take these words literally as i mean from a general perspective. Watever u say abt Gil as a Sadhu, is never EVER gonna be accepted , because he simply isnt!! ... as simple as that. The various posts here should have given u an idea as to who a real Sadhu is. So please dont even waste time refuting it. If u still believe he is one, well ... its ur life and ur beliefs. Some shanti now?

i am shanti all the time, i just lost the polite tone in some page of this discussion because you all seem to concentrate on your own believes and culture and dont even want to hear the visions of others. you just say stop tainting my religion. it looks very similar like all the wars on this planet right now, they are all lead because someone supposedly abused a religious fanatic. and what if we just start to see the common thing between all religion. like in india also the frequence is at the beginning of all everthing, the om. it was there before anything else, before the definitions, before the scripts. i dont know if it is too idealistic but may be it is right now time to see the common thing between the cultures and not to separate. enough separation in the last 6000 years.

and this guy with the hand, this was one of the holiest of all there. he keeps his hand like that for years, all the time ...he has incredible presence. and this is not his dhuni ( fire) where he is sitting, as far as i notice this is the dunni of baba rampuri that is an american and dear friend of goa gil, and is the first foreigner to be initiated as a naga baba officially. i really really really dont think that this holy sadhu with the hand would ever consider to come to the dhuni if he would not respect that. so you see my point: this sadhu respects that, and you dont. who is right and who is wrong. you or this sadhu that has done sadhana for years? you understand what i mean? do you? of course kumbha mela is visited by all other indians, but i dont need to tell you that the naga babas are the first to go into the water before all other millions of people. so it is a really special thing , i hope even for you. i noticed already that you dont understand what i am trying to tell you. you are just looking for something to grab and to start critisise. but whatever. i find this discussion really really sad as a matter of fact. and even if i dont look like that, i am sad to hear all those things here. really.

sadhu or not i dont really care what he does in hes bedroom...
as a dj i got no idea whats the buzz about him...
poor selection, poor mixing, great hugh public image...cant figure this out..or can i?
about the chosen dozen or however they called, i saw that list once or twice, first thing i thought was that the acts that admire him (for whatever obscure reason they might have)
and send him music get on this list...
i might be wrong but thats how it looks.
allways same acts and usually never a big name (which propably dont even want to send him trax)
there are million other producers that dont bother about goagil and i dont see them there on the holy 12 thing...

hey , sorry for the off topic .. but does anyone know why he hasn't played in Goa for so long ? .. im not sure , but .. 2002 .. was it ? last party in goa ?

last time he played to my knowledge
was on mahashivaratri in chapora at white rock def a while ago i was ther i forgot how many years and it was the evening not a full night party or set
i really have no clue why he hasnt played
prob just bc the party situation in goa has gone to shit and he doesnt get asked to play nemore by the orgs
but those are just my thoughts
good question...ne other more facts?

i dont think artists charge orgs to play sets in goa
i mean def not back in the day and i really dont think now
but maybe
and i doubt gil used to charge the orgs money for his sets at discovalley

well , last party he played in goa was 2006 @ white rock in chapora.
u need to get ur facts right akfortsayven
he hasnt played in goa coz there have hardly been any outdoor parties in goa since last 2-3 years . the police situation , mafia situation , permission situation .
i think u atleast know that there are no parties in goa from quite sometime now, or u are not aware of that yet ?
but u can usually see him chilling out with his wife when ever teo discovalley plays, usually at prim rose , where they have permission to play music till early morning hours

he has never charged money till date to play for any parties in goa.
and its all gil's friends who have organized parties over the years in goa , the Chapora Crew.

Actually it seems that you are concentrating on your own vision of what a sadhu might be, and ignoring the beliefs and culture of the country where sadhus actually come from.
I have seen a photo of my friend Alex sat at a fire with Hands-Up Baba at the Kumbh back in 1999 (Haridwar?), does that make him a sadhu too? BTW I like Gil's shades in that pic, I see he's 'renounced' having to squint in the sun

Kumbh is once every 4 years dude  But no, he's only been once, I think he stayed a week. But then none of his friends would ever think of calling him a sadhu even if he'd lit the first dhuni and was the last to leave Haridwar, which was the point of my post

oh then to be very precise to ur point Kumbha Mela is held every 12 years.
my bad that i didnt write MAGH KUMBHA MELA ,which is an annual bathing festival which takes place in the month of Magh (Jan-Feb.) known as Magh Mela.
It starts on a full moon day and lasts for 15 days to a month and attracts thousands of pilgrims who come for a dip. Every 12th year, this mela is known as Kumbh Mela and every sixth year it is known as Ardh Kumbh.
It is very important for people who follow the ritual of kumbha mela to go for the magh kumbh mela , just like it is important for an orchestrated symphony .Its just like the 12 notes which lead to a tune or melody , if u miss to pull or write one down , the whole thing sounds out of sync.
and good to know that ur friend was last to leave haridwar. wow , what a great achievement .
