gil does not always stay in 5 star hotels or eat at fancy restaurants, that is definitely a stereotype. though it may generally be true, it is not true at all in my personal experience with taking care of gil when he has been in town.

the 4th , the asetic also called sanyasi or sadhu : This is a person who renounces life and everything that goes with it (religion, caste, family, etc.) and essentially becomes a wandering hermit seeking moksha.

also , dunno if its relevant , but i am Indian , born to Hindu parents , lived most of my life here in India , visited the maha kumbh and another one , traveled and read up extensively on our heritage and culture and yes , been to many many Dj GoaGil parties back in the day .. look , im no expert or anything but I can tell a sadhu from a dj  also , it doesn't in the least bother me in terms of my sensibilities as a `hindu` being hurt or anything , Im not anal about things like that , but what you claim is factually incorrect.

why is it a fashion ? ok even if it is a fashion cult , then who is the designer of these symbiols ? the God himself or the people who follow these symbols .
if that is the case then it is very true that goa gil has made a big name for india in the global scene .
he is in india since 1970's and FYI there was no psyscene in india or anywhere in the world for that matter at that time other than goa ( fullmoon parties ) .. it was only in the 90's that we started to see the revolution take place or as i should put it straight for u that the party people started to realise abt the value of indian symbols n culture n the rich history .and Big respect to goa gil and his friends who had sown theseeds for this revolution to take effect, that is why thousands n thousands of them come every year from all over the world to live the spiritual experience that cannot be relived at anywhere else on this earth.
and for sure he is just another guy , but let me tell u he is a holy man , who knows his stuff , its not possible for someone who is unholy to be visiting kumbh mela from last 30 years n more . It is a hard life mate , when u go to the kumbh mela , u dont have the luxuries of even a slmall town or for that matter any sort of luxury.
it is just devotion n pure devotion which is the reason for anyone whoever it be who goes to these holy gatherings .
and he doesnt always stay in 5 star hotels atleast not here in india . he is a simple man with a simple lifestyle who is misunderstood by many for something which is not the truth.
he is a great guy with the purest of hearts who has immmense love for this scene

Goa Gil is just creating awareness , he is not preaching spirituality.
if u dont like it , dont follow it
Simple. it is not compulsary or some sort of a nazi rule that u have to do it .dont like dont do , dont come here n waste ur time .
dont go to trance parties for spirituality , just go to a temple mandir near u or inside ur soul if u have one

Im as much Indian as you are, bro I'm a Hindu exactly as you are and have never been out of India. Its my motherland, and i dont have any intentions of moving out of here, no matter how sad the scene gets here.
Regarding substances, I do those may be once or twice a year if its a very good line-up and a good location. My close buddies here know it. I dont have to prove it to anyone. The only substance i do a lot is Vodka... LOL 
I do respect your music bro...
P.S.: I was the last person to move out of the dance floor, when you played at Flames last year... i think it was Sept or Oct'07.
To be frank, that was one of the best indoor gigs i've attended.

never heard of brachmacharya, gruhastha, vanaprastha and sanyasa??????? yes it is a fact that some of the saddhus did have a wife or did make love or whatever. some sadhus go through the four stages, some dont go and just jump straight into the last phase. so where is excuse me the wrong fact??????????? read your own scriptures: The Manava-Dharmasastra , also known as the Manu-Smrti .....

ah yes. and please dont see this all as an encouraging to go to the kumbh. i mean, i guess it is just not for everyone. besides you will have health problems after that so better leave it . as far as i noticed, most tv's in india were showing all the time pics from the kumbh before it started, so i guess, you have all seen enough of it. i seriously doubt if Goa Gil would be so happy if his life as a Dj is mixed with his identity as Mangalanand Giri so much, especially on the Kumbh. |
