I actually think some of the whole use of DJane is perpetuated by some of the women themselves.
I have spoken to quite a few who insist on being called DJane and the are very insistent on it on all their flyers, promos and website info.
I got a very angry e-mail when I had forgotten to do that for one female DJ, and I asked her why she wanted to make that distinction. She admitted it would draw her a bigger crowd at the party, but also she saw it as a feminist statement.
I have actually sought out fenmale DJs, not for the sex appeal or pervert factor, but because I think they bring a different feel to parties and to their DJ sets.
There's a Moonsun DJ named Souixzie here in Florida and she is one I know of that does not choose to use the DJane tag.
She plays some massive and totally mind blowing sets, but sadly I haven't seen her spin since our local Gaian Mind nights went away.

Never heard of this!!
All the lady DJ's i have encountered still go by the title DJ - not DJane!!
But then again ... maybe i just haven't kept pace with the world!!
I say keep it DJ and leave the sexism out of it!! Uphold the nobility of the profession!!
Lady Doctors are still called Doctors - Not Doctorettes or Doctorellas, and still get the same respect!!

Yeah, I agree totally on this. A DJ is a DJ, if they have skills then they can spin a good set.
I was trying to edit my last post, but it was a little too late.
I wanted to expand on what I said about seeking out female DJs, because I really think there is a difference in the way they spin.
I have found that women bring a different feel to the theme and overall story line of the set, but it's very hard to put into words and define beyond that.
I just know that some women I know have spun some amazing and out of this world sets with a very subtle feminine touch and perspective on it.
