yes and after 4 pages i m not sure i have mentioned clearly limiters are great to shape transients when used with compressors with slower attack, learned this with the
distressor dist 3 mode that smouth a bit the transient and clip the sound and add 2 and 3 harmonics to get something inspired by tape harmonics coloration.
a limiter smooth transients and give you a little control on it depending the timing used ,it can be just the ticket specially on some digital synth sounds that can sound unmusical sometimes with their transients not smoothed a little, too much machigun like to sound natural. (but a good tape emu could be more suited than a limiter for smoothing transients when suited + it will add nice coloration while the limiter is transparent, the ubk 1 plug is not bad for this too) |

linear phase eq can smooth the transient too, haven't much experimented with these..too much latency and a pain to use usually but it could be just what a sound need sometimes...
the transient shaping is a big part of what make a mix more analog and musical, plesant to the ears imo , loads of hardware gears smooth transients..the trick is not sacrfice too much the punch on the sound that need it.
not always using the fastest attacks on synth too,but find setting that sound musical in the mix..there not all synth are equal, nord 2 for example can have good sounding attack imo and cut nicely ,sound musical in the mix |

Yo! Thanks for the tip, ubk1 thing, i will try that 100% now when i know it is exist..
and you are right, combination of compressor and limiter can be solution sometimes when finding nice movement and more warmness to the sound and to the whole music. |

yeah try it it s really a nice compressor , give you lot of control to shape the sound (work great for drums).
the kind of plug that can really improve a mix when used on many tracks with the cumulative effect and used subtely.
the compression timing, ratio and knee are the one used in the ubk fatso if i m right, what i find asweome, wihtout any control on ratio, timing knee , there is always one setting that does the trick (just i wish sometimes the compression to be more smooth, lower ratio.. but dialing more of the dry signal does the trick) |
